[00:00:12] Speaker A: Come on. [00:00:15] Speaker B: This is outside the round with Matt Barrill. [00:00:17] Speaker A: A raise rally podcast Bloomington, Illinois. Day four of tailgate and Tallboys 2024. My name is Matt Barrill. Welcome to Outside the Round live edition, live from the raised rowdy tent on these beautiful Bloomington, Illinois fairgrounds. My name is Matt Barrill and like I said, this is outside the rounds. This is our fourth and final day here at this amazing country music festival. We've had an absolute blast all weekend long. So much of a blast that my voice is gone. And no, it is not from bumming cigarettes or smoking joints or we've been doing a little bit of that too. But we have just been having a really good time. Last night, the after party with DJ Cliffy D was fucking outrageous. One of the wildest things that I have ever seen. And today we're going to have some more wild stuff going on. We've got some really good friends of ours joining us on the program today. We've got the same guys are going to be on the freaking main stage tonight, which is awesome, really cool to see. And we've got the side stage rocking as well. Let's go over that lineup we have got. We refer to them as red Necadonis. He's the greek God of the south, a term coined by Mister Nikki T, who will be joining us here in just a little while. We got Mister Riley green headlining, which will be really cool. Riley Riley's been out doing, doing sheds and arenas the past few months with our girl ella Langley and old paw Paw Tracy. Tracy Lawrence opening up. Warren Zider is also on the main stage. Our boy Colby Cooper is going to be joining us. Just a few minutes on the main stage as well. And then Ben Chapman on the main stage sidestage. We got some good homies as well. We got the boys from war hippies kicking it off at 315. Then we got miss Leah Marlene from five to 545. And then the boy wonder out of the great state of Mississippi, you've probably seen him on a, on a tv show called American Idol. Mister Colin Stowe, part of that ignition family. Shout out to our boys chase, Matthew and Austin Williams over there at ignition. And yeah, the after party was fucking wild last night. We tried to do security for it. And when the folks, when Wayne and Austin, who will be joining us in just a little bit as well, when Wayne looked at me and said, fuck it, let them all up, it got really crazy. It was one of the wildest after parties I've ever been to. I love those shades, brother. You look good. Oh, yeah. Look at those. Look at them legs, bro. You got better legs than she does. Look at that shit. Hell, yeah. Love the attire. Buddy's got. What do you got? You got corn? Is that corn dogs? What are those? What? Chicken fingers and fries? There you go. We eat like five year olds when we go to festivals. I fucking love it. It's awesome. But it's been great. Everybody's in recovery mode. The last two nights of after parties have absolutely wrecked and destroyed everyone. So I'm going to get our guests over here right now. We're going to get a. The one, the only, the pride of East Texas. We got mister. Colby Cooper. Colby, you're gonna come sit right next to me. My dog, Colby fucking Cooper. It's been a while, my dog. It's been a long time. [00:03:34] Speaker B: It's been a very long time. [00:03:36] Speaker A: It's been a long time. One of the first times we met was, I believe, out in Texas when I was out with the Muscadine boys. Yeah, if you want to throw those, you can know you hear yourself a little bit. It helps a little bit. [00:03:45] Speaker B: I'm deaf. I'm music. [00:03:47] Speaker A: I believe it, bro. And even this weekend, you boys have been rocking all weekend. What you, boy. What? Come again? What? What you boys have been rocking all weekend? You guys had a show. What's this weekend's run? Been looking like? [00:03:59] Speaker B: It's been great, dude. We had a show. So it's a Friday, Saturday, Sunday weekend, which is never a thing, right? It's always Thursday, Friday, Saturday. So we were home Thursday. Or I guess we were in Austin Thursday, filming a video, a music video, and then Friday we were in Pittsburgh, Kansas, at a casino. [00:04:17] Speaker A: Oh, dude, them casino gigs are fun. What's your game of choice there? [00:04:21] Speaker B: Blackjack. [00:04:22] Speaker A: Blackjack. That makes sense. Cause I've heard co is a blackjack, guys. I do, too. I'm a penny slot guy, bro. I don't got the money to ball on the table, dude. I don't either. [00:04:33] Speaker B: I pulled $200 out, and that's my limit every time unless I'm with friends that want to give me money. [00:04:38] Speaker A: Unless you're with uncle. Unless you're with Kyle. That's like when I used to be out with Trey Lewis. Trey would hand us. He'd be like, brill, go win me some money, boy. And I'd be like, all right, Trey, I'll do it. I'll penny slot this dollar 200 that you give me. But did you end up winning? [00:04:51] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, I won, like $1,000. [00:04:52] Speaker A: Dude, that's awesome. God blessed. We love Pittsburgh. We're raised rowdy. Started in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. But we. We love Pittsburgh, Kansas as well. With. For you, winning. Winning that kind of Texas. There's a Pittsburgh everywhere. [00:05:05] Speaker B: Everywhere. [00:05:05] Speaker A: Everywhere. [00:05:06] Speaker B: Every state has. [00:05:06] Speaker A: And then you said Kansas City yesterday. [00:05:08] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:05:09] Speaker A: KC, where were you in Casey? [00:05:10] Speaker B: We were at a PBR. [00:05:12] Speaker A: At a PBR. Those are fun. We just got one of those in Nashville. [00:05:15] Speaker B: Oh, really? [00:05:15] Speaker A: Yeah. It's funny. The one in Nashville is a set. Is the second floor. It's in the same building as DraftKings. There's a sports book on the first floor. [00:05:26] Speaker B: Sports books in Nashville? [00:05:27] Speaker A: Yeah, dude, we got sports books now. Sports gambling's crazy. Yeah, dude, that's what I'm saying. Next time you come to town, we're gonna have a wild fucking time. And then you're out here at Tailgate and Tallboys. Have you done cruising before with Wayne and Austin and Peoria? You haven't done Peoria. So this is what it. So this is your first time doing anything with these guys, right? With Wayne and Austin? [00:05:45] Speaker B: I'm almost 1000% sure. [00:05:47] Speaker A: Yeah, I would say. I would say so. Looking over at JT over there, he. [00:05:51] Speaker B: Knows a lot of weeds. [00:05:52] Speaker A: JT knows all the dates and he one of the best tms in the fucking business. Shout out. Yeah. Honestly. But I described this festival to people that don't know about it because we. We go to a lot of festivals all over the country and we're helping out. I'm actually gonna be introducing you on stage today. I'm. I've been emceeing all weekend, so my voice is going out and I describe this festival as if the WWF attitude era had a festival. It would be this. It's wild. Last night, bro, we were partying with DJ Cliffy D, the after party, and he just went full ratchet with it. And there were probably like four or 500 people over there at the side stage. People climbing up on the stage, shotgunning beers. It was fucking crazy. It was mayhem. [00:06:31] Speaker B: I was telling last night we had a free booth and I intentionally kept it on like two out of ten just for today. We're sending it tonight. [00:06:39] Speaker A: Yeah, today's to send it, bro. [00:06:43] Speaker B: Celebrating a lonely Father's day. [00:06:44] Speaker A: I know, dude. Happy Father's day to you, man. You're one of those guys that had kids at a young. How old are you now? [00:06:51] Speaker B: I'm 25. I just turned 25. [00:06:53] Speaker A: You're 25. And I've always said that you're so wise beyond your years. And I remember one of the first pods that I remember hearing you on was with Nikki T and with Kurt back a few years ago and just getting to know you and it's like, this kid's only at the time you were 21, 22, and you're. You've had so much experience in the industry and so much life experience and been. And been married and doing. And raising kids and doing all of that, dude, that. It's cool to get to see that. But a lonely Father's day, man, I give you credit for coming out and doing this on Father's day, man. [00:07:24] Speaker B: It's. [00:07:24] Speaker A: But every day is kind of like Father's day for you. You spend a lot of time off the road with the family and are very. How old are the little ones now? [00:07:33] Speaker B: So my oldest, she turned six in July. [00:07:35] Speaker A: Oh, awesome. [00:07:36] Speaker B: Dude. It's fucking insane. She just graduated kindergarten. [00:07:39] Speaker A: Kindergarten graduations are fun, dude. I got a little one in my life now. My girlfriend's kid. Yeah, dude. I spend a lot of time with her. Little Charlotte and the kindergarten graduation something. They all get up and sing a song together. [00:07:53] Speaker B: Oh, my God. I mean. And I'm the emotional one. Or like, my wife is like, she's rock. She fucking. She doesn't cry. I'll cry. I'll do the fucking thing. And we're at kindergarten graduation. Like, I'm not crying today. I'm just gonna. I've cried about it enough already. Yeah, four. And I'm sitting there like they're doing the whole thing. And then the. The principal reads, like, this poem, and I look over at my wife and she's just bawling tears. And I was like, what the fuck, dude? This isn't right. You're not. You're not crying. Why are you crying? [00:08:18] Speaker A: Yeah, the poet, the poem got my girlfriend too, but she's the actual mom, so, yeah, it's cool being around. Being around a little one. And it's definitely changed. Changed my perspective a lot, you know, spending time and all of that. So out here we're looking straight out. It's funny. Some of the vendors have cleared out over there. Yesterday were these giant ass trucks because they had a truck show attached to this. So it was all like, lifted trucks and shit attached with Bailey Zimmerman and what he does. So we had all those over here, and now we have a direct line to the campground. And there's not too much going on at the campground right now because everybody is hungover as fuck. They got here Thursday, bro. We had some weather issues Thursday. 90 miles an hour, winds came through. 90, 90 miles an hour winds. [00:09:02] Speaker B: What the fuck? What is it? What is it classified as, like, a tornado? [00:09:05] Speaker A: I don't know, dude. It was. [00:09:06] Speaker B: It was like a tornado. [00:09:07] Speaker A: It was crazy. When it came through, it was chaos. And we were hanging out and catering, and I was like, oh, these. These held up? Yeah. No way these held up. [00:09:15] Speaker B: We took the slide 40 foot in the ground. [00:09:17] Speaker A: Yeah, they're deep. They're deep in there. So it was wild. But now we're starting to see some. Some folks coming in and partying and getting ready to go, and it's the festival life. You've done a lot of festivals in your day, right? [00:09:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:09:30] Speaker A: What are the festivals in Texas, like? Because I haven't done Texas festivals yet, man. [00:09:34] Speaker B: They can be raunchy for sure. I don't know if you've ever seen the legendary Dick Chug video. [00:09:40] Speaker A: The dick Chug video? [00:09:42] Speaker B: What's that? It's. It happened in Stephenville, Texas. [00:09:45] Speaker A: Oh, Stephen. Yes. [00:09:50] Speaker B: And it was. We had just finished playing, and our buddy Randall King was on stage playing, and you can hear him in the background. And there's this girl, and they say that her husband was, like, right behind her watching it all. And, like, she gets down on her knees. Homie pulls his drawers down and, you know, like, shots off the body. [00:10:06] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, shut off that shot off the privates. [00:10:10] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:10:10] Speaker B: It was just fully, like, in her mouth. [00:10:13] Speaker A: Wow. But that's. That's what they're like. It's. [00:10:15] Speaker B: It's, uh. [00:10:16] Speaker A: Yeah, you see some wild stuff. [00:10:19] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:10:20] Speaker A: That's crazy, dude. Yeah, we've. We've seen a lot of, like, a lot of shotgunning of beers out here. The camp. The campgrounds have been wild. Another festival that I love, that I've been wanting to get to because I'm good friends with Carrie and the folks out there. Stillwater, the cat fry festival, dude, I've heard cat fries, nuts. [00:10:35] Speaker B: Oh, my God. It's so fun. It's so fun. You get cheap weed there? [00:10:39] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Oklahoma. Oklahoma weed hits very well. And people look at me funny on the east coast when I say. And they ask me like, hey, barrel, you've traveled all around the country with different bands. What's your favorite weed? I'm like, oklahoma weed slaps, dude. And they get those gummy bears. We call them. You know, the bears. [00:10:57] Speaker B: I know you're talking. [00:10:58] Speaker A: If you've been to tumbleweed. Nikki T. Knows. Nikki T. Knows the bears. [00:11:01] Speaker B: He's had some bad nights, bro. [00:11:03] Speaker A: I ate one of those bears, and I went to a predator's game once in Nashville, and we sat way up in God's country up at the top, and I stood up for the national anthem. And then right after that, I sat in my seat, and I just. I just held on for dear life, eating one of those 90 milligram rso bears they give you at Tumbleweed. [00:11:20] Speaker B: Me and JT, man, it was one night. We're like, dude, let's go hard. We probably ate, like, four of them. [00:11:26] Speaker A: Oh, no, you would have four of them. [00:11:27] Speaker B: It was probably about, like, that. Four or five. [00:11:29] Speaker A: Wow. [00:11:29] Speaker B: And we're in the hotel room, and, like, I'm fine. I'm chilling the bed. Like, this is great, dude. I'm so hot. And then JT is, like, not talking, and he goes to the bathroom, and I hear puke. [00:11:39] Speaker A: He's throwing a green out. [00:11:42] Speaker B: Oh, no, I'm right behind him. I'm freaking out. He comes out, I'm like, dude, are you. Are we good? Am I about to be sick, dude? He's like, no, no, dude, this is. It was, uh. It was just from the food I ate earlier, bro. It's not. Not at all that. And he goes back and it throws up again. And I'm just, like, panicking. Like, dude, I can't throw up. I hate throwing up. I hate. Just cause, like, you know, you throw up and fuck your voice. You gotta sing the next day. Like, dude, this is so bad. And I just fell asleep. [00:12:04] Speaker A: But, yes, it's great when you fall asleep. I actually hit the. There's a cookies dispensary right over there in the Walmart parking lot. Right, right when you get out of here, you have to hit a. And I got one of the sleepy time disposables. Cause those are great. I like doing it right before bed and shit. So what's been going on as far as music and everything for you, dude? [00:12:22] Speaker B: Man, we just released a new song two weeks ago called Mama, and we've got a bunch of new music on the way. I'm just writing and in the process of putting an album together, I guess. [00:12:33] Speaker A: Hell yeah, dude. [00:12:34] Speaker B: Like, four more songs. [00:12:35] Speaker A: Hell yeah, dude. See, you're one of the first guys that I think of with. Of the Texas boys, like, coming out to Nashville, and I working with fellow Texans that are. That are in the Nashville scene, like Jordan Walker and guys like that, man. And you're still over at combustion? [00:12:51] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. [00:12:52] Speaker A: Falcon and. Falcon and Blake. [00:12:55] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, Keith. [00:12:56] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. Which. It's cool. It's got to be cool for you being a Texas guy and so involved in the Texas scene. The red dirt world that goes Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, like the border states, but then gets to come out to Nashville and be a part of what's going on out there, too. [00:13:11] Speaker B: Absolutely. Mandy. So fun. And, you know, it's felt like, I mean, fuck, man, I've been. I'm 25, but I've been doing this since I was. You know, we put out our first song when I was 18 and we started touring when I was like, right around 19. So it's been a minute. It feels like. And this is like one of our first real big festivals to be a part of. And, I mean, we've done a few in the past. Like, I guess this past year and a half has been like, the first time that we're really getting into these big ass, just national festivals. And it's been so fun, man. I'm so, so thankful for it. [00:13:39] Speaker A: But it's cool. Yeah. For the people out there that haven't seen a Colby Cooper show, I've seen quite a few of them. I've seen Colby Cooper music videos. First time we burned that when we let that fucking trailer on Fire burn. Dude, that was fucking wild. But how would you describe a Colby Cooper show to those who haven't seen it? [00:13:56] Speaker B: Dude, it's a rock show, man. We go up there and we don't run tracks. We just have fucking five inputs, I guess, including however many our drums and auxiliary. Dude, we just go up there and fucking put on a rock show, Mandez, you know, fucking balls out. Have fun. [00:14:11] Speaker A: Hell yeah, dude. Well, we're looking forward to it, man. And when's your next trip out to Nashville? When are you coming back out to us? You know? [00:14:17] Speaker B: July 11. July 11 at a Brooklyn bowl. [00:14:20] Speaker A: Oh, you're playing out there? Okay. [00:14:22] Speaker B: Sick. It's been a minute since we played. [00:14:23] Speaker A: Out there, like July 11. Let me check the calendar. Let's see if we're in town. Let's see if we're in town. Let me see if we're in town. Nikki T. Hey, Nick. July 11, the boys are playing at Brooklyn bowl. I'm gonna check the calendar real quick and see if we're there. Oh, it's a thought. We're at. We're in Ohio. [00:14:40] Speaker B: Fuck. [00:14:41] Speaker A: We're in Ohio. We're at country concert. [00:14:43] Speaker B: Not that night, right? You're flying back in, right? [00:14:46] Speaker A: Might have to. We'll send some of our crew for sure, dude. But we definitely got to kick it in town. And we got the new podcast studio and stuff, so we'll have to get a full episode with you on there. But dude, enjoy the vibes of today. This festival, like I said, is fun. It's fucking hot. Which you as a texan have plenty of experience in warm weather. Singing. [00:15:03] Speaker B: Doesn't mean I like it though. [00:15:04] Speaker A: No, I know, I know, I know. And enjoy the catering. It's funny. The catering here is fucking awesome. They serve great, great lunch, great dinner, great everything. And the catering crew is whenever we did the after parties the last two nights, the catering crew. Esther, this woman who runs catering, is on the stage going hard, dancing. She's like the energy of the after party. You know, it's a good festival when the catering crew comes out at the after party and they just start boozing and smoking and having a good time. Yeah, dude, that's what it's all about. So, brother, I appreciate you coming on hanging. And it's going to be really cool because we've introduced you at Live Oak before and the 420 takeover. You remember that? [00:15:47] Speaker B: I do, I do. [00:15:47] Speaker A: That was fun. We have that legendary picture of you Pecos and Dylan lighting up. [00:15:51] Speaker B: I think that pictures hung up in like, our management office. [00:15:54] Speaker A: Oh, really? Yeah. Wells took that? Yeah. That's cool, dude. And, and how's everybody at floating leaf doing? Everybody good? [00:16:01] Speaker B: Everybody's great. [00:16:02] Speaker A: Suge white doing well? [00:16:03] Speaker B: He's great. Jeb, bro, everybody's fucking killing it. They just living life and working their asses off. [00:16:08] Speaker A: You know, that's what it's all about, man. And it's so cool to watch out. That thing's grown over the past few years and you being a part of that family. And obviously co pay cause Dylan Logan doing his thing. Coming up, the kid like, shout out to the boys. Yeah, dude, honestly, it's fucking awesome seeing you guys do what you do. So we appreciate you, brother. [00:16:26] Speaker B: Thank you. [00:16:26] Speaker A: Don't make some noise for Mister Colby Cooper one time, boo boo. Hell yeah. Well, Colby's gonna be going on the main stage today, so you go on. I believe it's 05:00 or six. Six o'clock. [00:16:41] Speaker B: Six. [00:16:42] Speaker A: Six o'clock. Six o'clock. Check with JT. He knows. He knows. That man knows the day she. [00:16:46] Speaker B: I'm barely here right now. [00:16:49] Speaker A: Well, we'll have to get you decked out. Go pick out some razor, outdoor merch. We'll deck you out. And if any of the boys want to grab a hat or a t shirt, anybody in the band and the crew, send them over here. They can pick something out. So Colby Cooper, appreciate you. We'll be back with some more. We've got our buddy Ben Chapman coming up in a little while. I believe we have Austin and Wayne, who helped put this festival on. Joining us in just a little while. So this is outside the round, live on location, Tailgate and Tall boys, Bloomington, Illinois, 2024. And we are rolling back at Tailgate and Tall boys, 2024, Bloomington, Illinois. It's Matt Brill again, outside the round. We are live on location. Been out here all weekend. My voice is shot, but we are here and here with one of my best buds, a guy that I've known, first met back in, I believe, 2018 when he was just moved. They were starting to make trips up to Nashville. He's from Lafette, Georgia, one of our. One of our best buddies, and he just killed it on the main stage. Y'all give a warm welcome for our man, Ben Chapman. Whoo. Yeah, bro. You and the boys got after it up there. [00:18:00] Speaker C: We tried to. I hope it looked cool. We were hot as shit, dude. [00:18:04] Speaker A: It was. I mean, this has been the hottest day thus far. It's been a. It's been a hell of a hell of a weekend. And you guys got in from Nashville this morning. You made the. Didn't come up the night before you came up the date. [00:18:16] Speaker C: I actually lied on stage because I forgot where we were. We were actually in Michigan last night. [00:18:21] Speaker A: Oh, you were in Michigan? [00:18:22] Speaker C: Yeah. And then drove down here. Oh, so, yeah, it was 77 when we played last night, and now it's 98. [00:18:31] Speaker A: You go from one legal state to the other. [00:18:34] Speaker C: Can't you tell? I'm like, how y'all doing? [00:18:37] Speaker A: You're feeling good, man, but it's been a while since I've seen you. Everything been good? [00:18:41] Speaker C: Everything's been great. Dude, I just finished up the record that me, Anderson east, did, so it's awesome. [00:18:47] Speaker A: That's pretty sick to be recording a record with fucking Anderson east, man. [00:18:51] Speaker C: Yeah, man. [00:18:51] Speaker A: That's sick, bro. That's. That's really, really exciting. I'm excited to see what you boys came out with. [00:18:57] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. I'll give you a preview. I'll send it to you. [00:18:59] Speaker A: Please do, man. But how's the year been so far with touring? We're getting into the thick of the festival season and getting out in the summer when it's hot and when country music and funk and all that is, like, at the max, like, the vibes are the highest summer. [00:19:14] Speaker C: Totally. Yeah, man. We've done a couple of festivals so far, mostly just been on the road doing weekend warrior stuff, but it's been great. [00:19:23] Speaker A: Where you been recently? [00:19:25] Speaker C: We just played in Columbia, Missouri, on Friday, and then Michigan last night, and then the week before that, we were out with Ian Munzik. [00:19:33] Speaker A: Ooh, that's a fun tour. [00:19:35] Speaker C: He's a sweetheart. [00:19:36] Speaker A: Ian and Caroline and that. That whole crew, they're awesome. [00:19:38] Speaker C: I didn't get to hang out with Caroline, but Ian was so sweet and had so many nice things to say. And Washington just, like, a cool dude. [00:19:45] Speaker A: And that crowd loves them so much. [00:19:47] Speaker C: Dude, they love him. And, like, surprisingly, it's a. It's definitely a different style of music, but they loved us, so it was a. It was a good match. I was excited. [00:19:55] Speaker A: Yeah. So now being quite a few years into this thing, bro, I feel like you have found your sound, and it. And it comes through. I love the branding of Ben Chapman and company because there's more than just your guitar and your voice on stage and on those records. And you guys really create such a unique sound that is blending of all the different things that have gotten you to this point and your love for music. [00:20:18] Speaker C: Of course, dude. Of course. And I feel like. Like you just said, I'm finally finding my sound. Like, first record was great, but I was, like, 21 when I made it with Jake Gere. Like, I love that, dude. But we. We went in and he took me under his wing and was like, hey, you know, make this record. And we did it, and I love it. But now hearing that record, compared to what we just made, it's just night and day. Cause I think it's just all about finding yourself and finding your sound and what you want to do, what you want to say, how you want to write a song, and that's. That's everything. It all starts with a song. You can put as much shit as you want to around the fucking song. But it all starts with a song, you know? [00:20:55] Speaker A: Yeah, dude, absolutely. And I feel like you're. You're not the only one in your crew that has had that happen over the past, like, year or two. [00:21:03] Speaker C: Yeah, our whole little ring has been. Been doing pretty good. [00:21:05] Speaker A: The. The graduating class of revival. [00:21:09] Speaker C: Exactly. [00:21:10] Speaker A: The. The last class. And I know Rob and Tebow and everybody are bringing it back, which is awesome. But, like, that. That crew of you, Meg, Harper, Tyler, Nate, Colin, Gabe, Vinny, like, more and more to name job. Like, everybody's found everybody. Wayne and the whole team is winning right now. [00:21:31] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. Everybody's on the road. Everybody's doing their thing. I mean, Tyler's selling out shows in, like, Texas. He's selling out, like, thousand cap rooms now, man. It's so cool to watch one of your best friends literally just be like, holy shit. He just blew up. You know, it's crazy. [00:21:46] Speaker A: You gotta think back to when you guys were just chilling, making these songs, passing around a doobie. And now to be passing around doobies with your band on the road. There's still lots of doobies being passed around. [00:21:57] Speaker C: That never goes away. [00:21:58] Speaker A: No, it never does. But to see what. What you've had going on now, what you think of this tailgate and tall boys festival, because you're. You're obviously close with Wayne and Austin and you. [00:22:07] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, dude. Wayne's the best, man. We, uh. We've been playing down at cruising's for, like, three years now. So I. He was like, we did it last year in Taylorsville. It was the smaller one. And Wayne was like, this year, we're gonna get you on the main. And I was like, all right, dude. And then lo and behold, he did. He's a man of his word. [00:22:25] Speaker A: Yes, he is. [00:22:25] Speaker C: But he's a badass. And this is really cool, man. We just literally drove in, like, 30 minutes ago or 30 minutes right before we played, so I haven't got to check it out, but everybody's been so sweet. It's been cool. [00:22:37] Speaker A: You've got a good little fan club right there. These four have been all. [00:22:40] Speaker C: These are badass. [00:22:42] Speaker A: They've been coming over, being like, when's Ben coming by? When's Ben coming by? When's Ben coming by? We love Ben. [00:22:47] Speaker C: I'm late. I was supposed to be here 245 and, yeah, accidentally didn't make it. How to say it was an accident, is it. [00:22:55] Speaker A: Does it blow your mind to have pockets of fans popping up around the country? Because I know regionally you've had it in Georgia and Chattanooga and, like, those areas for a long time, man, time. [00:23:04] Speaker C: Means the world when people come. I mean, we've just started headlining shows. So, like, in Columbia last night, there was, like, 48 people there, but everybody knew a song or every song, and it was just so it. I can't put it into words how good it feels, you know, it's like, it's a. So much work paying off and. And just. We've opened up for everybody, bro. And it's like, list some of those off. [00:23:30] Speaker A: I know you're not a name dropping guy by any means, but some of the folks that Ben has opened for over the past four, five, even six years, like your journey from the solo acoustic stuff. The Muscadine bloodline boys. [00:23:43] Speaker C: Yeah. Muscadine was the first guys to pull me under their wing, and it's full circle working with Adam. And then, you know, reclaim is another band that pulled me under their wings. And Laney Wilson. And, I mean, there's just so many Brent Cobb. He's my brother. [00:24:00] Speaker A: Brent Cobb is your brother? For those that don't really know the full Ben Chapman story, Ben is from Lafayette. Lafayette. There you go. [00:24:08] Speaker C: You got it. [00:24:09] Speaker A: I got. [00:24:09] Speaker C: The first time. [00:24:10] Speaker A: Lafayette. Not Lafayette. Lafayette. Lafayette, Georgia. It's up in the northern part of Georgia and home to another amazing songwriter, Channing Wilson. [00:24:19] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, man. [00:24:20] Speaker A: And that's. [00:24:20] Speaker C: That's my boy. [00:24:21] Speaker A: And that story of, you could probably tell it of how you kind of got. That led to you getting to Nashville. [00:24:26] Speaker C: Yeah, man. I met Channing at a 4 July party, and my dad. Cause everybody knew Channing in my hometown, and my dad was like, channing, let my boy get up here and play one. And I was, like, 16 at the time. And we got up and played a song together, and we've been friends ever since. But he was the guy who told me he was like, ben, if you want to take this shit serious, you got to start writing your own songs, and you got to move to Nashville. And when I turned 21, I moved to Nashville. It's hard to move to Nashville when you're not 21 because half of the bullshit is networking. And then it all happens in a bar, and you can't get in unless you know what I mean. So it's like, I waited till I was 21, then did the move, and it was great. [00:25:05] Speaker A: Yeah, dude. And spending time on Channing, staying with. Staying with channing, staying with Brent. With Brent Cobb, Adam Hood, Aaron, ray tier. Like, that whole. [00:25:17] Speaker C: He's my brother, our best friend. [00:25:19] Speaker A: Ben. [00:25:21] Speaker C: I have the voicemail. I have the voicemail on my phone of that original take. [00:25:26] Speaker A: Oh, really? [00:25:27] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. It's. It's. It's hilarious. It was a total joke. And then Aaron was like, I'm gonna put it on Spotify. And I was like, you should totally put it on Spotify. [00:25:36] Speaker A: That's that one. [00:25:38] Speaker C: And now it's like a 10 million views on Instagram. I'm like, what the hell? It's so hard to go viral on Instagram. Like, what the fuck? How did that go viral? Like, what exactly? It's like, the craziest shit ever, but, yeah, man. [00:25:50] Speaker A: Yeah. And being a part of, like, of that crew and. And Nashville's an interesting place because you have music grow and you have, like, the game, so to speak, and then you have guys and girls that can find success and find themselves without necessarily having to do that. Muscadine being at the forefront of. [00:26:06] Speaker C: Yeah, and it's. It's so humbling. You know, at Pete's jam this past week, we just sold 500 tickets. And it's like. It's so humbling coming out. You know, it's like in Nashville, you can be this shit, and then you come out to, you know, normal America and it's still the grindenna, you know, in Nashville. I feel like, man, we're doing good in Nashville. You know, it's like we got friends, we got people showing up. And then you go out into the world and it's like, hey, man, this is a real job and this is real work, and it's. But it's awesome. So, like, back to full circle moment. Back to what you said earlier. It's like when those 40 people show up, it means the fucking world. Cause it's just like, it's so hard to get people to actually asses into seats singing your stuff, and I don't know. It's cool. [00:26:54] Speaker A: That's why I'm excited for what this next. This next project in this next chapter. [00:26:59] Speaker C: It's like a new era. [00:27:00] Speaker A: Because this. Because the ball has been rolling and the ball has been rolling in Nashville for a long time. [00:27:05] Speaker C: It has. [00:27:05] Speaker A: I think, like, as far as the Peach jam brand Peach jam won, I got a little too up in the sky that one night with. I was hanging out with Farron and Nicole and Nikki. [00:27:16] Speaker C: You had to cut out early? [00:27:17] Speaker A: I had to cut out early, man. That was back in my delta eight days. [00:27:20] Speaker C: I've had to cut out a couple times. [00:27:22] Speaker A: And I found Nick Halstead and job, and they had this stuff called rocket fuel, and it put me on a rocket. [00:27:26] Speaker C: Yeah, man. [00:27:27] Speaker A: But Pete's jam one, if you guys are ever in Nashville, they do it. Is it first Wednesday of the month. [00:27:33] Speaker C: So we did it every. Every month for a whole year. And then these past two years, since we've been on the road so much, we just cut it down to quarterly. So we're doing it every three months. [00:27:41] Speaker A: Yeah. If you guys ever get a chance to go down and come down to Nashville for a peach jam, it is one of the coolest events that and. [00:27:47] Speaker C: One of the people don't buy a ticket. You are on the list. [00:27:50] Speaker A: Yeah. Y'all are vip. And who'd you have it? [00:27:52] Speaker C: If y'all show up to a damn podcast, you are on the list for anything. [00:27:56] Speaker A: Yeah. Who'd you have at this past Pete's jam that hopped up with. [00:27:59] Speaker C: We have Brent Cobb, Hayes Carl, the band, Lula. You ever heard of them? [00:28:05] Speaker A: I haven't heard of them. [00:28:06] Speaker C: Killer, dude. Look them up. Meg was on there. Meg McCree. I had Ashley Ray, and then Aaron kicked things off. Oh, and then we had Lucas Nelson as a special guest and drew Nix from the reclass trays. [00:28:18] Speaker A: Hell, yeah. [00:28:18] Speaker C: That was fun, man. [00:28:19] Speaker A: Yeah. You never know what you're gonna get at peach gym. What you will. What you're guaranteed to get is Ben Chapman and company. And you never know what special guests will be on there. They put out the flyer with the different names, and they've had Laney pop up there. You've had Tyler on there. You've had a lot of all the different homies that have hopped up for sure, over the years. And it's so cool to watch you kind of cultivating a scene for folks. [00:28:39] Speaker C: Yeah, man. And that's what we want it to be. You know, there's so many times in Nashville, it's just the bullshit of a record label showing up or, you know, a booking agency showing up. And it's like, man, fuck all that shit. Cause they just stand in the back of the room just like this. [00:28:53] Speaker A: Yeah, nobody's vibing. [00:28:54] Speaker C: And for those who can't see what I'm doing, I'm just crossing my arms when you put this out. I'm crossing my arms. And they're back. They're in the back of the room. Like, ugh. But, like, that's not what Peach jam is. It's about the community. It's about the music. It's about the guest. It's about everything about music, and that's what it's all about, man. [00:29:12] Speaker A: Absolutely. So. So give us a little bit of more. A little bit more details. When do we think the new. We just put out temporary high. [00:29:20] Speaker C: Yeah, temporary high came out Friday. [00:29:21] Speaker A: Is that a part of this next project? [00:29:22] Speaker C: Yes, sir. Yep. And we're doing three more singles. One in September or actually one in July, 1 in September, and one in October. And then the record comes out in December. [00:29:34] Speaker A: Dude, let's go. What a way to end the year. Also, I love your attire, man. You always. Dude, you're always dressed to fucking impress. I love the bears, bro. [00:29:42] Speaker C: Oh, it's the Jared Bears. It's a grateful dead. [00:29:45] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. Love the dead on there. [00:29:48] Speaker C: I got some conductor overalls. This is a new feature. I don't. I just started getting the confidence to wear these, so they probably look stupid, but I don't give a shit. They're comfortable as hell. [00:29:58] Speaker A: You look great. Doesn't he look great? [00:30:00] Speaker C: Yes. Hell yes. [00:30:01] Speaker A: Yes. Exactly. [00:30:02] Speaker C: I need y'all. [00:30:04] Speaker A: And now we're at. We're at a fair, obviously there's catering backstage and everything, but you look around and you see some of this fries. I saw those fries, those curly fries. [00:30:12] Speaker C: Those fries were insane. [00:30:13] Speaker A: I think they come from that big sign that says curly fries. And looks like you can get like bacon and Mac and cheese. All kinds of shit on there. [00:30:19] Speaker C: Ben, I've been eating all day. [00:30:21] Speaker A: This is a great place to get the munchies and just walk around. But you gotta walk around with a certain amount of cash so you don't spend everything. [00:30:26] Speaker C: Exactly. [00:30:27] Speaker A: Then you end up eating. [00:30:27] Speaker C: I know everything. It's like, how much do you spend a day? It's like a $100 on food. It's like shit. [00:30:32] Speaker A: It's like I had the munchies give me all the corn dogs. [00:30:35] Speaker C: I do that all the time. [00:30:36] Speaker A: Dude, what's your, what's your late night munch you go to? [00:30:40] Speaker C: Well, dude, Nashville fucking shuts down at eleven now. So I do el tapatillo off uber eats over there on Nolan's. [00:30:46] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:30:47] Speaker C: And it's the best that sopas and shit. It's like real authentic. [00:30:52] Speaker A: I like the gringos. Tacos. The tacos gringos. When Nikki T used to live with. [00:30:57] Speaker C: Joby, that Joby showed it to Joby. [00:31:00] Speaker A: Shows everybody the good mexican joints. [00:31:02] Speaker C: Matt Daniel showed me the carnitas sopas and those blew my fucking mind. And then Joby was like, you need to get the tacos, gringa. [00:31:12] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:31:13] Speaker C: And I was like, okay. [00:31:14] Speaker A: That's actually what saved me that first peach jam. After I. [00:31:17] Speaker C: Did you get some mail tap? [00:31:19] Speaker A: I got some green gus. Nikki pulled in. We got the green gus. I died on their couch watching planet Earth. And I woke up and I ate a green gus and I was brought back to life. [00:31:27] Speaker C: Yep, yep, you're back. [00:31:28] Speaker A: A tail is all the same. What happened? I know what happened. I smoked this stuff called rocket fuel and I went to the moon. You know, it was wild. It's awesome watching you do what you do, Mandev. I appreciate you. We'll. We'll get a full. A full episode done in art. We got a new studio now. We're over in Hermitage behind the tractor supply. It's in this building called limit Studios. And they built this out, a whole custom room where we want. Yeah, yeah, dude, let's definitely do something around, around the record and of course, love what you do, man. And bring all make sure. All your guys pop out here and grab themselves a hat or shirt. Deck everybody out. Deck everybody out in the. And you gotta. You gotta pick out a new. A new head of shirt. [00:32:08] Speaker C: I need some new attire. [00:32:09] Speaker A: Yes, we got. We got plenty of new raised rowdy it's plenty of raised rowdy attire. But you'll be sure to check out Ben Chapman. Be on the lookout. For the record, he'll make some noise for our boy, Mister Ben Chapman. [00:32:19] Speaker C: Thanks, y'all. And sweet. [00:32:22] Speaker A: Yeah, this has been awesome. This actually closes out. We saved the best for last. This closes out our live podcast shit here at Tailgate and Tallboys, Bloomington, Illinois. Have you guys been enjoying the festival so far? Hell, yeah. It's been. It's been wild. The weather was crazy on Thursday, and then we've just powered through Wyatt Flores out here on Thursday, which was really dope about that. [00:32:45] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, look wild. [00:32:46] Speaker A: He was here, and then he went out to the fucking parking lot and played in the bed of somebody's truck with his full band. [00:32:51] Speaker C: That's pretty sick. [00:32:52] Speaker A: Yeah, he was like, I drove all the way out here. I'm fucking playing. [00:32:55] Speaker C: That's another cat, man, that just blew up right out of that. [00:32:58] Speaker A: Yeah, an Oklahoma. [00:33:00] Speaker C: I was literally just riding with him on my porch, like, a year ago, and then it's like, he's out with, like, 300 people in the parking lot. It's like, what the hell? [00:33:07] Speaker A: Yeah, awesome. Yeah, dude. He's a great dude, and he's a sweetheart. Yeah. We had Wayne and Austin on. We had Colby Cooper. We had Clayton Shea, we had lecade. [00:33:15] Speaker C: We always get a look like Colby Cooper all the time that you look like, oh, all the Colby Cooper. And I'm like, yep, that's me. [00:33:25] Speaker A: Colby's up next. And you know what's great? Colby is about as much of a 420 guy as you are. [00:33:30] Speaker C: That's what I heard. [00:33:30] Speaker A: Maybe that's what we do. Maybe we go back, we introduce the two of you guys, and we break bread. [00:33:35] Speaker C: And finally, finally I meet myself. [00:33:38] Speaker A: Inception. Yes. Inception. [00:33:40] Speaker C: I'm gonna let my hair down, you know. [00:33:41] Speaker A: Yes. [00:33:42] Speaker C: Honestly, really get the look going. [00:33:44] Speaker A: That'd be awesome, dude. But thank you guys so much. Shout out to Tailgate and Tallboys for having us. Appreciate everybody watching and listening at home. [00:34:37] Speaker C: To a girl I love? [00:34:39] Speaker A: Only got a couple tricks on my sleeve? They usually just make em leave? So if you know me? If you really know me? You know I'm just a two trick pony? Maybe the drinking and the lack of money for show? I'm just a two drink on it? Yeah?
