Speaker 1 00:00:13 What is up everyone? Welcome back to the In the Round podcast you got Matt and Tyler, and today one of our good buddies, a Midwestern boy. Yeah. Who, uh, who we've gotten to know from our time here being in Nashville. It's our good buddy. Garrett Biggs. Garrett. How the hell you doing, buddy? Speaker 2 00:00:27 Dude, I'm doing good. How you guys doing, man? Doing Speaker 1 00:00:29 Well. It's a Monday. How was your weekend? Speaker 2 00:00:31 It was busy, dude. It was b It was fun. It was really, really fun. But, uh, yeah. Good. I good to be back in Nashville. I'll tell you that. Speaker 1 00:00:38 So where, so where'd you go? Speaker 2 00:00:40 We had a run of shows up in Illinois. Let's see what, damn. Where were we? Uh, Kazie Hometown played there on Thursday and then Matt Toon Illinois on Friday. And then Terre Haute, Indiana on, uh, on Saturday. Speaker 1 00:00:53 So. Nice. How often do you go out and do runs like that? Every Speaker 2 00:00:55 Weekend, man. Really? Yeah. Every weekend on the road. And so tracked a lot of miles, dude. Put about, I think we put like 60,000, see my, my tour machines, the little, my little Dodge Dart, you know? And so I think we've slapped about 60,000 miles on that this year, so. Damn. Yeah. A lot Road time. Damn, Speaker 1 00:01:12 Dude. That's awesome. How long you been doing this music thing for? Speaker 2 00:01:16 Oh, hell, man. Uh, about my whole life, honestly. My dad's like, he was in music and stuff, so like, I've always been exposed to it, but, you know, I played my first show back in sixth grade, so about since then, shit. So X amount of years. I'm, I'm dumb with math, so however long that is, Speaker 1 00:01:33 <laugh>. That's cool, man. Has it always been country for you or did you have some other influences? Speaker 2 00:01:37 I mean, as far as playing? Yeah. Yeah. It's always been country, but like I was raised on classic rock and whatnot. Like Def Lepard is the reason I fell Speaker 1 00:01:44 In love with music. Okay. All right. Much like our good buddy Dave, our buddy. Dave's like that too. Dave Hangley, where he's all Speaker 2 00:01:49 Oh yeah, yeah. I know Dave. He's Speaker 1 00:01:51 All about Def Leppard. Like I remember doing road trips with him. We were both living up in Jersey and the ha at least half the car ride would be just the Hysteria album. We would just listen to Def Leppard over and Speaker 2 00:02:01 Over and over again. Again. That is the album that got me to music. Dude, I think I was, let's see, I would've been like second or third grade and I, I remember I had this silver CD play Right. And just like cheap old headphones. Yeah. You know, and, and I, I'd just pop that in there every time. Cause we used to camp a lot whenever I was little. And so I'd pop that, that CD in there and I would just spin it all weekend, man. It was, it was one of the best records of all time. Just Speaker 1 00:02:23 Jamming. Speaker 2 00:02:23 Yeah. Yeah. Straight rocking out dude. Rocking Speaker 1 00:02:26 Out out's. Awesome. Now you're transitioning into country from that. How did that come to be? Speaker 2 00:02:30 Dude, Jason nde? Honestly, I heard, I heard Jason Alde, I can't remember exactly what song it was, but it was like my kind of party hick town, like that whole like era of Jason and I heard that I was sold, man. I was like, great storytelling cuz like, I always respected and loved the storytelling of country, but there's something about like that rock edge that just like was sick, you know? Yeah. So I heard that and I was like, game over. That's it. Country all the way, dude. So Speaker 1 00:02:58 Yeah, a lot of people cite Aldean as like that, that that mid two thousands into like 20 10, 20 11 range of alde. Right. Um, be it like, right, right around like, right up to maybe like the night trade album, which was also a great record. Speaker 2 00:03:10 Oh, that was, that, that whole record was incredible. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:03:12 And it's just amazing how a guy like that. Have you seen him live? Speaker 2 00:03:15 I've seen him live one time. Yeah. I was still up in high school and we went, I can't remember what tour it was for the Life of Me, but I saw him live and it was when Thomas Rhet, I, I know Thomas Rhet was out with him. Speaker 1 00:03:27 Was it the Thomas Red j Owen? Speaker 2 00:03:30 May have been. Speaker 1 00:03:31 Because I know, I know those guys. I remember, see that was my first Al Dean concert. Was that MSG York? Speaker 2 00:03:35 Oh, it, how, how long ago? Speaker 1 00:03:37 That was 2013. That was the year I graduated high school. Speaker 2 00:03:39 That may have been the same. Speaker 1 00:03:40 That was the night night train tour, actually. Funny enough for something like Speaker 2 00:03:43 That record, actually, I think, I think it was the Night Train tour. It was either that one or the one after. Speaker 1 00:03:46 And that was back when Thomas read his songs that he was playing was All American Middle Class, white Boy Beer with Jesus. Like Yeah. And it goes like, this was like just coming out at that point. Yeah. And it's crazy how fast forward all those guys are doing their own tours. Oh Speaker 2 00:03:59 Yeah. It's wild dude. It's, it's kind of crazy how like everything just kind of moves forward and grows and then how things kind of change, you Speaker 1 00:04:05 Know? Cool. And that was, that was the pre haircut Straight Florida hippie Jake Owens. Speaker 2 00:04:10 Oh yeah. Straight hip, Speaker 1 00:04:11 Barefoot blue Jean Knight Long Hair Don't Care. Or Seminole Jake Owen. Speaker 2 00:04:16 Right. And I remember when Jake Owen cut his hair, dude, I was like, I know, I was kind of devastated. I was like, Speaker 1 00:04:21 <laugh>. I was like, Speaker 2 00:04:22 Dude, like, come on. But I mean, hey, you know, he, he, he's killing I still, Jake, if you're listening, bring back the long hair, dude. I love it. I love Speaker 1 00:04:31 It. Yeah. But just let it go. Let let it go on down. So for you, how long you been in Nashville now? Speaker 2 00:04:35 Uh, let's see. Little over a year, I think. Like a year and a month now. Okay. So just my, uh, I actually got this tattoo on my arm. That's the day I moved to Nashville. So July 20, July 29th, 2018. Awesome. Speaker 1 00:04:47 What made, what made you wanna move? Speaker 2 00:04:49 Yeah, I just love music. Honestly. Like, you know, I've been doing shows since I was in sixth grade, middle school, kind of around there and through high school, you know, I started writing songs and making, making albums, releasing singles, all that stuff. And, uh, just really fell in love with it, you know? And I kind of, kind of had that, that mindset that I think everyone that moves to town has, at one point they just kind of reached that point. It's like, you wanna do it for a career and you wanna do it for a living. It's like, there's there's one place to be to, to do country music, you know what I'm saying? If Speaker 1 00:05:21 You weren't doing music, what would you be doing? Speaker 2 00:05:23 You guys are gonna laugh your ass off at this. That's fine. Good dude. I would be a meteorologist, honestly. Speaker 1 00:05:29 A meteorologist. Speaker 2 00:05:30 I'd be a weatherman. Yeah. <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:05:32 Like, like Steve Carell from Anchorman. Like Bri Tanin. Yes, Speaker 2 00:05:35 Exactly. Anchorman. Exactly. Speaker 1 00:05:37 Oh shit. Like, like, just like a straight up weatherman. Why would you wanna do that? Speaker 2 00:05:40 Dude? I don't know. Well, okay, so like, well we were talking about this stereo album, like whenever I, that same time I was like really diving into like Boston and Journey and all them. I loved weather, dude. I don't know what it was. Like, just tornadoes and stuff I loved. I'm completely nerding out right now. But, um, Speaker 1 00:05:55 No. Have you seen a tornado since you've been down here? I don't know if you get 'em in Illinois Speaker 2 00:05:59 Or not. Oh, dude. Uh, in Speaker 3 00:06:00 Illinois. Illinois's part of like the tornado alley, right? Really West. See, we're like Speaker 2 00:06:04 West, we're like right outside of Tornado Alley. That's like western Illinois. Yeah, I'm like at East. But yeah, we get a ton, dude. Speaker 3 00:06:09 Well, my grandpa's from Indiana and they get 'em all the time up there too. Yeah. Speaker 2 00:06:12 Yeah. Well part of Speaker 3 00:06:13 Indiana Wabash Speaker 2 00:06:15 Wa like the Wabash Valley? Speaker 3 00:06:17 Uh, no, no, no, no. Like Wabash, Indiana. Um, kind of close to like Manchester. Speaker 2 00:06:22 Is that south or Speaker 3 00:06:23 Like, uh, north. North. It's like mid north. It's basically like Illinois is still kind of are, uh, not Illinois. Indianapolis is still kind of southern. Speaker 2 00:06:33 Oh, so you're, so you're kind of, you're up there then? Speaker 3 00:06:35 Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're like, uh, I'm trying to think what else is up there. We're above like Elkhart and all that kind of stuff. Okay. Speaker 2 00:06:43 I'm with you. Speaker 3 00:06:43 I'm with you. Um, we're like halfway between like, that's like halfway between like Indy and like North Bend. So Speaker 2 00:06:48 Have you ever been to, I can't remember what it's called now, it's called Clips, is what it was called, uh, in Nolansville, just north of Indianapolis. Have you ever been there and seen any concerts or Speaker 3 00:06:58 Anything? I haven't cuz when I went up there a lot, I was still like in middle school or early high school. Okay. Right. So like, I haven't been up there probably in five or six years. Dude, if you Speaker 2 00:07:06 Ever get a chance, check it out. That's where I saw Jason Alde actually really at the clips. It's like this big amphitheater. It's like the closest stent place you can go to see, like a big, big tour like that, you know, like bad company played there and um, Speaker 1 00:07:20 You really love your classic rock. You're saying bad company too? Speaker 2 00:07:22 Oh yeah, dude, I love it. You love Speaker 1 00:07:24 Your your jam shit. So for you, was it, was it like writing lyrics or was it playing guitar first Speaker 2 00:07:28 As far as like writing songs and Walmart, whatnot? Well, Speaker 1 00:07:30 Just in general musically. Were you, were you more singing or did you pick up a guitar at a pretty young age? Speaker 2 00:07:35 Oh, I picked picked up the guitar first. Oh yeah. Cuz see my dad, he, he was the front man in the cover bands back home. Right. Speaker 1 00:07:41 Oh no. Speaker 2 00:07:42 Shit. So, but like he, he, his thing was like, he just wanted to be a guitar player. Yeah. You know, but I mean, back home it's kind of slim picking. It's like if you could sing, you're freaking singing, you know? Yeah. And so, so he, he kind of ended up doing that. But like I say, he just always wanted to be a guitar player. So, um, yeah, so for me, like I just started learning guitar and that's what I gravitate towards now. Like writing and, and I think, uh, you know, um, good friend Ethan, Ethan Wills, he'll tell you we've wrote some songs together and he'll tell you like, I'm always picking up the guitar first, you know, so that, Speaker 1 00:08:10 That stage one of you in the writing process. Speaker 2 00:08:12 Oh, oh yeah. Like he'll, like, we'll just be like, I'm always asking like, what's the vibe you want on the guitar? You know? And I'll try and like find some, whether I do or not, I don't know. I just hope so, you know. Speaker 1 00:08:21 Do you prefer playing acoustic or electric? Speaker 2 00:08:24 Oh geez. Could Speaker 1 00:08:25 Be in a big classic Rockie. I'm sure you love trying to hit those Def leopard, Def leopard chords. Just dude going Speaker 2 00:08:31 In on it. Oh, I do man. Well, and that's like in our, in our live show, we do pour some sugar on me. Oh, actually. And we got like, like this, like whole intro before it. And I wanna say electric dude. Gimme that tone. Gimme me that Speaker 1 00:08:41 Tone, man. What's your, what electric guitar do you play? I Speaker 2 00:08:43 Play, uh, fender Nashville Telly actually. But it's got a humbucker in the bridge, so, um, kind of souped it up. I'm like one of those guys. I love how a telly feels and operates. Yeah. But like, I need more punch, Speaker 1 00:08:54 Dude. Yeah. And I feel like that's such a big thing with within country music is having that telly like Oh yeah, for for sure. People, people just cranking them out and you have some guys that are, that you can, you can tell it shows like extra country if there's more than one telly on stage at one time. Cause I've seen that happen quite a bit recently where we've been out at, like, you see that whiskey jam and you'll hear the, and you'll, you'll just hear those opening, those opening chords, those opening notes. And you'll be like, oh shit, these guys Speaker 3 00:09:17 Are, you know, country you's really country though. Exactly. What's that? Because they have the Nashville Till that's got that B bender or the B and the G bender in it. Yeah. That's when I really know like, okay, we're in for it. Speaker 2 00:09:26 Yeah, exactly. He, he's not wrong. One of my, uh, good buddies, Jesse Davidson, he's killer picker. He, he has the G bender in it cuz like Brad Paisley is his, is his dude, you know, and, and, uh, man, the way he works, the g bender is, it's pretty gnarly. I'm not talented enough to do that, man. I'm still trying to learn how to, I just strum it. So Speaker 3 00:09:45 I love the one that's like the strap, but the, they're coming out with this new one now. That's the palm stuff. And so like you rock your palm one way, they have a g a bee on it and you just like rock your palm and it bends it. Speaker 2 00:09:56 I haven't seen that. That's sick Speaker 3 00:09:57 Though. That's sick. Uh, Dusenberg is like one, like, they've had it around for a while, but dusenberg like released like a lap steel and it's got it on there. Got the palm. People are like taking those bridges and putting them on Teles now and stuff. They're pretty sick. That'd Speaker 2 00:10:11 Be, see I like, obviously I've never used one, but I, they look cool and I, to me it makes like the most practical sense I guess. But it's like, it's like the hip shot or something. Or not, it's not called a hip shot, but like, you know, like it has that thing on the back and then you can stick it in your belt loop. Yeah. And then you push it forward and it does the same thing. You know, Speaker 3 00:10:29 The one that my buddy, my buddy has a custom shop, uh, the Nashville tell you, and he's got the B and the G and the B is, you bend down on the neck and the G is, you push the guitar forward. Speaker 2 00:10:41 See, I don't know how they do that, Speaker 3 00:10:42 Man. You can Speaker 1 00:10:43 Actually, I don't speak guitars at all. I got No, he's, he's the guitar guy. I, I know, I know shit about when it comes Speaker 2 00:10:48 Stuff. I know the basics, you know what I'm saying? I know the basic Speaker 3 00:10:50 Like, it bros you though. Cause like, I like to kind of like, like I, when I played a lot, like I play like Les Paul and I play like stuff that's got chunkier necks. Yeah. I mean I play Tellies. I love a tell, but like, I like to kind of like fight with my guitar a little bit, you know? For sure. Um, and like I was playing that one one night and man I just kept bending it and I was like, cuz like I'll like push down and stuff and all of a sudden you're bending the string and you're like, oh man, <laugh>. Speaker 2 00:11:13 Yeah. That's the thing is' they're touchy. I remember when, going back to Jesse, I remember when he first got it, got it put in, like there was kind of like this, for lack of a better term, like this learning curve with it because like he would go to Bend, but it's like they're, some of 'em are so sensitive that it's like, you know, you, because when you bend to note, like you, you kind of squeeze, you know? Right. And you can kind of, in the moment you can kind of maybe push down a little bit. So he, you know, you kind of hit those notes without wanting to do it. And that, like I say, I, I'll leave that to the other guys. I can't do that stuff. <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:11:41 So another thing we like to, obviously talking about guitars and music and all that stuff. Yeah. So when you first moved to Nashville, so July 29th, 2018. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, what was your first experience like in Nashville the first night that you don't remember? Speaker 2 00:11:54 First night? That I don't remember. Speaker 1 00:11:56 Cause I know you're a little bit on the younger side, so Broadway's a little bit different for you, which we're gonna get to talking about that a little bit too. Yeah. I want to hear what it's like being a, being a kid that's not that magical. Two, one coming to Nashville. Cause Speaker 2 00:12:07 Man, I'm gonna say's, actually Speaker 1 00:12:09 Tell me the story. Let's hear Speaker 2 00:12:11 The biggest, the biggest night that I remember, or I guess that I don't remember. I remember a little bit of it and like, it's one of those nights, like to this day I still kind of find stuff out every now and then. Okay. Like, dude, you remember doing this or saying that? It's actually, um, I got a girlfriend here in town and it was the night I met her. And, uh, it was at a house party actually right across from Demian and all and the same apartment that she lives in. And, um, I went there and I got, I got plastered, man. I got straight plastered. It was like straight tequila night. That's what it was. And, and a lot of people don't believe me, but I had probably 10, 10 tequila shots maybe. And like a couple tequila, tequila drinks on top of it. Speaker 2 00:12:54 And then a few beers. And then we went, I remember me and a buddy went across the, uh, across the tin roof, I think it was to revival and uh, had a beer there as well. And then went, went back and from there on out. I, I don't remember, I remember my roommate, um, well you guys might probably know her. Joy Beth Taylor. I remember me and hers roommates and just good friends, you know. And, uh, I remember I got in the door and like, I remember she put me in my PJs, man. I, she said she, she said that I crawled up the stairs to my room really slow. And then I, like, I crawled into bed and then I just, I just passed out. It was <laugh>. So that, that, that was pretty quick whenever I moved to town. And Speaker 1 00:13:32 How were you, how, so you moved the 29th, was that what like August? That's like early you moving to town? Speaker 2 00:13:38 August, September around. It's Speaker 1 00:13:39 About a year ago from right now. Yeah. Damn, dude. Speaker 2 00:13:42 Might have to relive that day. So, hey, you Speaker 1 00:13:45 Might, you might have to, I know you got a birthday coming up too, man, right? Speaker 2 00:13:47 Nobody. Yeah. That's gonna Speaker 1 00:13:49 Be a fun Speaker 2 00:13:49 Time. <laugh>. That's gonna be real fun. I'm just hoping I pull through honestly. <laugh>, you're Speaker 1 00:13:53 Going, you're going to, man. You're going to, and you've been in this town now for, for quite a minute. So for you coming from, coming from where you're coming from up in Illinois, coming from Upper Upper Midwest, and I know there's a music scene there and you, you do gigs up there and stuff. Yeah. What was coming down here and net networking like for you? In the beginning Speaker 2 00:14:10 It was cool, man. It was just like, you know, cuz up north I'm from Caley, Illinois, which is just a town of, of 3000 people. And like all the Speaker 1 00:14:17 Southern Illinois, Northern Illinois, east, east, Speaker 2 00:14:18 East Central. Yeah. Kind of like east. Well you guys know where Champagne's at by chance? Champagne. That's where Speaker 1 00:14:23 Going where Thelan I are. Right, Speaker 2 00:14:24 Exactly. Yeah. So I'm like an hour, we'll say an hour south or Effingham's about 30 minutes away. So if you guys are on the road and see those signs, you're kind of around my area. All right. But, um, just coming down, you know, there's a music scene up there, but it's, it's, it's slim pickings like I was saying. It's like, you know, you just find guys that can play and, and you start a band and, and you just get it together. You know what I'm saying? And it was really cool to experience that. But as far as coming to town, it was, it was a culture shock, you know? Cuz it was a big city. Yeah. You're coming Speaker 1 00:14:53 From a small town, I'm guessing. Speaker 2 00:14:54 Oh yeah. 3000 people, shit. Yeah. Yeah. I'm coming from a small town. And so whenever I got here, honestly it was really cool more than anything else because like, there was some people back home that I worked with that I was super blessed to, to work with as far as recording and, and writing and all of that. And, but coming here where it's, it's, it's a way of life. You know what I'm saying? Like, you go out to the bars, it's like everyone's a writer or an artist or drummer or X, y or Z, they're in it some way. Most likely. Not everyone of course, but most people I, I would argue. So coming down here and, and just kind of being around, being around like-minded in individuals 24 7. It was like, I, I nerd out. I love to talk music, you know, so it's like I could, I could do that. Yeah. You know? And I don't feel like I'm completely annoying everyone cuz we're on the same boat. We all love talking music. Speaker 1 00:15:44 Everybody gets it. Exactly. Speaker 2 00:15:46 Yeah. Speaker 1 00:15:46 Yeah. It's that, it's that hub of just everyone's come from somewhere else and they're, they're now all together. Right. Working with that stuff. So what was your first co-writing experience? Like, do you remember who it was with and how it went? Speaker 2 00:15:58 Well the, as far as in town? Speaker 1 00:16:00 Town In town. In town. Oh Speaker 2 00:16:01 Man. In town. I can't remember. As far as who, well I'm gonna guess it was Joy Beth cuz we moved in together. Speaker 1 00:16:08 How did, so is she from Illinois as well? Speaker 2 00:16:10 No, she's from Alabama, actually. So, roll Speaker 3 00:16:13 Tide Speaker 2 00:16:14 <laugh>. That's right. Are you, wait, where are you from? From Speaker 3 00:16:16 AP Moore, Alabama. Speaker 1 00:16:17 South Speaker 2 00:16:18 From Alabama. He's Speaker 1 00:16:19 From south Alabama. He's got family that lives up. That's originally from, I think up in that Indiana area. Right. That's my grandpa. He's, he's, he is Alabama as it gets. The boy loves Whataburger. He loves his roll ties. Loves Speaker 2 00:16:29 I never had Whataburger, man. Speaker 1 00:16:31 I had a Whataburger for the first time and, and I called it, what did I call the, the honey butter chicken biscuit or something. I called it a honey boo boo biscuit. And, and Honey Boy and the boy, the boys gave me a lot of shit. It may or may not have ended up on an Instagram story or two. Speaker 2 00:16:44 Was it good though? Speaker 1 00:16:45 Oh dude, it was fucking fantastic. And these Whataburger, Speaker 3 00:16:48 Who says Whataburger isn't good, doesn't have taste buds. Speaker 1 00:16:52 What's Speaker 2 00:16:52 The, see I've never had, what's Speaker 1 00:16:53 The go-to when we're on the road in Illinois? What's like your guys' chain that you got up there? Speaker 2 00:16:57 Oh man, it's, it's not really at Illinois exclusive, but for me and the boys, it's a Cracker Barrel dude. Yeah. Okay. I bring on that Cracker Barrel. But here's the thing, I don't know if you guys have had it. If you haven't, you need to. But check out Casey's Pizza. It's a gas station up there. Casey's, but they're pizza. They're like famous for pizzas. Their thing. Huh? I Speaker 1 00:17:17 Wanna watch You're recommending gas station pizza than Boy. Hey, I'm, I'm going in with high expectations. Speaker 2 00:17:23 I know. Well, hey, remember, Speaker 1 00:17:24 Are we talking like personal pie? Are we talking about? Speaker 2 00:17:26 No, we're talking like a pie. Like Speaker 1 00:17:28 A pie. Like, like a goods size pizza. Speaker 2 00:17:30 Right, right. Well, dang. What's the, uh, what's, what's that like, brand of pizza that when you go in a gas station down here, it's like, Speaker 1 00:17:38 Is everywhere It's hunt pizza. Yeah, it's Hunts Brothers. Speaker 2 00:17:41 Yeah, that I feel like that's okay. You know, but Casey's is like, it's its own thing. Okay. And like all the boys and stuff that taken up there that we've ate it. Speaker 3 00:17:49 So like decent gas station pizza. Have you ever had the pilot pizza? Speaker 2 00:17:54 I don't think so. See, Speaker 1 00:17:55 I wouldn't even go, I wouldn't even go for that. I've been in a pilot, people shower Speaker 2 00:17:58 At pilot. I mean, I've, I've grabbed too many Speaker 3 00:18:01 Pretty good. Speaker 2 00:18:02 I've grabbed so many. Just like one, one slices out of like the heaters. What's Speaker 1 00:18:05 Your, what's your, what's your topping? Oh, sausage. Sausage. Your sausage Speaker 2 00:18:09 Guy. Hands down. Yeah. Speaker 3 00:18:10 Hands Speaker 2 00:18:10 Down. What about, what about you? What do you, what do you like? Speaker 1 00:18:12 I, well, back home, I, we got so many options. I'm in the pizza mecca. Oh, Chicago's great too. But I'm in the pizza mecca. It's different cuz the Chicago pizza looks like a goddamn lasagna cuz it's got got all these fucking layers. Man, you gotta eat with a fork and a knife. And the meat pizza. Speaker 2 00:18:25 Dan Spoon sometimes. Dude, dude, it's Speaker 1 00:18:27 Weird. Real Speaker 3 00:18:27 Thing. Oh, if you get those things hot, it's still like a soup, Speaker 2 00:18:30 Dude. Yeah, just run It just runs Speaker 3 00:18:32 Out. Speaker 1 00:18:32 I, I love a chicken bacon ranch slice. I love traditional cheese and all that stuff. Coda Bear who's sleeping right now. Cause his sleep schedule's all messed up. He needs some hibernation time talking Speaker 2 00:18:41 About, I think all Speaker 1 00:18:42 Schedules. Yeah. What sleep schedule he'll stay, he'll stay up till fucking 10 30, 11 o'clock in the morning and then sleep all day and then get covid, Lord. But anyway, what he always eats, and we actually had some Curty Domino's last night was, um, he gets like the Hawaiian pizza. The Hammond pineapple. Oh. Which I started the warmup too originally. I called him a, when I first moved in Speaker 3 00:19:02 But's the communist pizza. Speaker 1 00:19:03 I've warmed up to it. It may help if, if, if I'm, if I'm eating a certain kind of substance beforehand, that's gonna get me in the hungry kind of mood or lightened up beforehand. But like I, Speaker 3 00:19:13 You have to be outta your mind to enjoy that pizza. It, Speaker 1 00:19:16 I'm not, okay, let's Speaker 2 00:19:17 Let's it though, let's talk about that Meat lovers pizza though. Oh see, come on with that. For Speaker 1 00:19:22 Me, the meat lovers has to come from Pizza Hut. That's where I had my first Meat Lovers pizza. Speaker 2 00:19:25 Oh dude, I can't do Pizza Speaker 3 00:19:26 Hut. Speaker 1 00:19:27 Why Speaker 2 00:19:27 Not? No, I can't. Why not? I just don't know what it is. Speaker 3 00:19:30 Do you have, uh, have you eaten at Little Chicago yet on the mum end? Yes. Yes sir. Do you have like their, I forget what the call, Speaker 2 00:19:35 I've never had their pizza though, to be Speaker 3 00:19:36 Honest. Oh dude, they have. What Speaker 1 00:19:38 Do you, what are you going to Little Chicago again besides pizza? Hu But you got a sweet Speaker 2 00:19:41 Drive. Everything, honestly, I kind of get the munchies, you know, like, Speaker 1 00:19:47 Hey, that I, I'm all about that. Speaker 2 00:19:49 Yeah. It switches every time. But I like, is their pizza pretty good? Little Chicago, Speaker 3 00:19:52 Their deep dish is pretty great. Really? I mean, they're like from Chicago. So like, they just brought it down and Well Speaker 2 00:19:59 That is pitiful then because I they have the you if you guys ever had Chicago dogs? Speaker 3 00:20:03 Yeah. No, I've had Portillos. Speaker 2 00:20:05 Okay. Well they like try 'em out. Dude. I can't remember the name of it. We, Speaker 3 00:20:08 I'm not a fan of 'em. I don't, I don't like stuff with my dog, but like, I tried one. I'm just not a fan. So what, what, Speaker 1 00:20:13 What the hell do you get at Daddy's dogs? Speaker 3 00:20:15 A plain dog. Speaker 1 00:20:16 Fucking not one or the fuck bro. Whole people. Speaker 2 00:20:21 Hey, I'm not gonna lie. I do the, do the Plain dog Speaker 3 00:20:25 Or I get the, the one that has like barbecue sauce and cheese and bacon on it. Like I'll do that. See, Speaker 1 00:20:30 That's something Speaker 2 00:20:30 Now, now, now that he's said bar barbecue, I'm gonna go and say it to barbecue sauce on a hot dog. Freaking try it, dude. Yeah, it's just, yes, it's good. Yeah. Or ranch. Like being from Midwest Ranch. Speaker 1 00:20:41 What about your, your barbecue down here? What do you like going for a barbecue? Well, we're talking Speaker 2 00:20:45 About food man. I mean, I'm still, still kind of, there's so much barbecue down here. Yeah. Like I was talking to someone about this on the road actually this weekend, like about the barbecue down here. And I mean, let's be honest, you can't go wrong with Martin's. Martin's just pretty Speaker 1 00:20:57 Banging. Yes, it's a staple. Speaker 2 00:20:58 Right. But there's this one spot. Me and my roommates, we think it's, we think it's pretty sick. I'm barbecued over there on Nolan's Speaker 3 00:21:06 Barbecue's. Good. Speaker 2 00:21:07 It's, it's, it's not up to Martin's, but it is. Speaker 1 00:21:10 I haven't had it yet. For, for Speaker 3 00:21:11 What it is. That is good. It is literally fast food barbecue. Can we Speaker 1 00:21:14 Get it on our Speaker 3 00:21:15 Way to work pretty? It's not Speaker 2 00:21:16 Pretty cheap Speaker 3 00:21:17 Because it's not on the way to work. Oh, Speaker 1 00:21:19 Goddammit. I want to get this at some point. Barbecue dude. Gotta go Speaker 2 00:21:22 Check. Let's go Speaker 1 00:21:22 Dude. I I'm down and we'll get the munch you. We'll be good. We'll Speaker 3 00:21:25 Be, yeah, like, uh, Speaker 1 00:21:25 So fucking see how much food barbecue he's got. We'll eat all of it. We'll be good. You're gonna go in, you're gonna Speaker 2 00:21:29 Want go back. Speaker 1 00:21:30 What do, what do, what do you get Speaker 3 00:21:30 There? You're, you're wanna take that back. Speaker 1 00:21:31 What's your, what's your go-to there? Speaker 2 00:21:33 Dude, I just get like, for me about any barbecue place. Like gimme the brisket, the beans, you know, like the smoked beans. You, you know, they're really good. And then I'm a pasta freak so you gotta hit me with the mac and cheese Speaker 3 00:21:44 Yo. Yeah, you mac cheese. I get the pick two meat thing and I get the pulled pork. Cause that's my thing is I get pulled pork. Yeah. Um, and then I get, uh, they have smoked sausage. Speaker 2 00:21:56 That would be Speaker 3 00:21:57 Good. And it's really, really great. Speaker 1 00:21:59 He hasn't steered me wrong on food yet. We've been to like 50 different Mexican restaurants since I moved here about a year ago. Yeah. And there's been like one or two that haven't worked out. And those were the ones that I picked or the, or the, that uh, big Daddy Willis picked. Okay. So I'm gonna Speaker 2 00:22:11 Ask for lunch then. All right. Speaker 1 00:22:14 Well, what terms of Mexican places? But like, he, he's usually steers me, right? So Yeah, Speaker 3 00:22:19 I'm with him Speaker 1 00:22:21 Almost. Oh dude. Yeah, man, that's Speaker 3 00:22:23 Best Speaker 2 00:22:23 Actually just ate there before I came here. Oh dude. Yeah, but they messed up the taco dude. They, they did me dirty, honestly. How so? Well, like, so we get the lunch tacos and they don't come on a plate. Like they're in these little things. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:22:35 I'm like, little tinfoil. Speaker 2 00:22:37 Well, they're like, no, Speaker 3 00:22:38 It's the little taco holders. The little, yeah. Like a holes of taco. Yeah, it looks like an s Speaker 2 00:22:41 Yeah, it's like a bunch of those. And they just sit 'em in there. Well, like they had two taco shells on each thing and I couldn't pick it up, so I went to pick it up and it just fell everywhere. Oh dude, it's waste of a good taco. I'm like, Speaker 1 00:22:54 It's a fucking s Speaker 2 00:22:55 I'm like, you gotta be shitting me, dude. Why, why are you doing the two shells? Like for one, no one actually likes the shell. It's, it's all about what's inside of it. So like, don't, don't double up the shell. That's a sin, you know, or whatever. Tortilla or whatever it's technically called. Speaker 3 00:23:09 The only time it's not a sin. If there's a cheese in between the, that's Speaker 2 00:23:12 Like a Speaker 1 00:23:12 Chalupa, like Taco Bell or the Gordita Crunch, like that style. Well Speaker 3 00:23:16 This is just Speaker 2 00:23:17 Like a double shell. I'm like, Kirito. Yeah. The hell is this man, you know? Yeah. Speaker 3 00:23:22 Las Palm on eighth Avenue is the best one. The one over there by Kroger. Speaker 2 00:23:25 That's the one we go to most. Speaker 3 00:23:26 Yeah. It's all the other ones are hit and miss. That Speaker 2 00:23:29 One you're talking about that one like kind of right off Midtown? Like not too far. Is that what you're talking Speaker 3 00:23:34 About? No, it's the one like down, like near Berry Hill and all. Speaker 2 00:23:37 Oh, okay. No, we go to, there's this other one. Yeah. Yeah. Not far. It's like north of Midtown a little bit. Yeah. And it's, it's really good too. Speaker 3 00:23:45 It's good. I've had some bad experiences there, but, oh, don't tell me that. The one, the one on the eighth by the Kroger. Kinda like in Berry Hill area. Right? Dude, that one is without fail the best one in town. Speaker 2 00:23:56 Well, I'm just glad there's one close in case that other one ends up shitty. Yeah. Honestly. Yeah, Speaker 3 00:24:00 There's like five of 'em in town now. Yeah. Don't go to the one on Charlotte. Do Speaker 2 00:24:04 Not the one. There's one five minutes from my house. That's, it was just like 15 minutes from here. And highly recommend. Wasn't too bad. So be ready. They might double tortilla your tacos. Speaker 1 00:24:14 Oh. Oh. We'll be ready. We'll be we'll be out high. Double ort. Double tortilla alert. So now in terms of writing and your career right now, you've been in town for a year. What's, uh, what's 2019 been like for you? I know you've put out some music, you're, yeah. You're hitting the road a lot. You're doing a lot of good writing. Like what, what's 2019 been Speaker 2 00:24:30 For you so far? Man, it's like, this year has been nuts. You know, it's, it's been one of those years. It's like, you kind of do this with every year, like around New Years, we'll say, but it's like, you kinda look back, right? And you kinda, I, for me, I look back to where I was and where I'm at. It's like, okay, what has happened? Like, have we grown? You know? Cuz that's, I feel like that's how it is. You just want to constantly be growing. Yeah. However that is. And 20 nineteen's been great, man. Like, I can't even believe we're, we're already in August. Um, you know, we're, we're starting to go out on the road doing full band shows, uh, more, which, which was a big goal of mine. You know, I, I go out and do these acoustic shows every, every weekend. You know, that's how I make my money, that's how I pay my bills, all that. And they're, they're fun. I have a blast doing 'em. But I, I wanted to make it a point to get out with, with the boys more start putting on, you know, I guess, for lack of a better word, a concert. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. So doing that, um, we've dropped two songs this year. We're gonna drop one more. Hey. Towards the end of Speaker 1 00:25:27 This year. Congrats dude. That Thank you. Speaker 2 00:25:28 Thank Speaker 1 00:25:29 You. Three songs as an independent that, that's not easy to do. Speaker 2 00:25:32 No, dude, we're lucky. We're lucky. Yeah. And, uh, I mean, the support, I mean, it, it all goes back to the fans, like the support from the songs and just people coming at the shows and, you know, like just tip jars, you know, throwing a couple bucks in there, buying, accuse, buying a shirt, like all this stuff. Do Speaker 1 00:25:48 Do you play on Broadway at all ever? Speaker 2 00:25:50 I have a, I have a few times. Yeah, I have a few times, but I mean, real, I'm just busy on the road mainly. So it's like, I, I try and come into town and, and, and just write and then leave on the weekends, you know? Um, and that's kind of, kind of what I do. I've had fun playing on Speaker 1 00:26:04 Broadway though though. Yeah. That, that is, that is a great way to do it. Now, for you, what's the farthest way that you've gone in place? I know you said you play a lot in Illinois, Indiana. Like you're, you're kind of honey hole Speaker 2 00:26:14 Kinda around the Midwest, kinda, yeah. Um, dude, I did a fly date out to Maryland one time. Oh shit. So that was, that was really fun. Where Speaker 1 00:26:21 At? Speaker 2 00:26:21 Oh dang. It was right outside Baltimore. Okay. I remember that. It's been, this one was actually before I moved technically. Um, but we did that and that, that was really fun, man. And right now we're talking to, uh, Oklahoma about doing a show out in Tulsa. Hey. So excited about that. It's, Speaker 1 00:26:37 It's cool what it, it's gotta be a cool feeling when you go out to these markets that you haven't touched yet. Oh, it's fun. And then, and then probably, even surprisingly to you, people know who you are. Speaker 2 00:26:46 That that's what, that's what is wild to me is like, you come to a market for the first time and there's always one or two people that, that know, know you. And what's even wilder is like you, you keep going. You start to form relationships with people that come out, have a good time, you know? And, but I, it never fails that someone in the crowd is from my area in Illinois. Really? Yeah. I mentioned Effingham, which was 30 minutes shit away. I was playing in Kentucky a couple weeks ago and I went over this. They were just having a good time. This table, I just went, went over and was like, Hey, thanks for coming out. You know, like, appreciate you guys being supportive and just having fun. Yeah. Because, you know, it's a choice every time they spend their night with you, you know, they could easily go somewhere else, but, you know, just stay and hang out. So I was hanging out and, and come to find out, you know, I just got talking with them and they were from Effingham, which is 30 minutes from my hometown, you know, like, that's crazy. Hung out and done a lot of shows over there and just, it never fails, dude. And like, we were out in Maryland and a girl I graduated with, her family showed up out in Maryland. They, I was completely shocked. You know, it's just, damn. It's just wild, dude. Yeah. It's fun. It's really fun. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:27:50 Is there a certain song that's, that people will pick up on when you're out in the road? Like one of your originals that people are like, we really like that one? Speaker 2 00:27:58 Um, yeah, dude, honestly, there's a couple, thankfully. Um, breakup has been, has been one. And then, uh, this new one I haven't released yet called, called somebody that, I don't know if we're gonna release it or not, but we may. And actually, you know, Ethan's sitting here hanging out with this Damnit boy is actually been, Speaker 1 00:28:16 Yeah, dude. Damnit boy now. Yeah. Talk about, I know you got a, you got a co-writer sitting over there playing, playing around on the couch. Yeah. Um, what? Speaker 2 00:28:23 Don't say that in the microphone. <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:28:26 Oh man. Good lord. Speaker 2 00:28:28 He's, he's playing on his phone crushing candy or so. Oh, Jesus Speaker 1 00:28:31 Christ. Y'all, y'all remember Ethan from an earlier episode and stuff. Big daddy Willie. But, um, damnit boy, what was the process of that one? Like, cuz you wrote that was what? Speaker 2 00:28:40 Ethan and Ross Copley Speaker 1 00:28:41 And Ross Coy, another good buddy of ours. What was that? Yeah, what was writing that song? Like, dude, Speaker 2 00:28:45 That, that was a fun, right man, that was really fun. That was a kin. We were all, we were, we were all dead as could be in the beginning cuz we had late nights, you know, so this, so Speaker 1 00:28:53 This was a morning, Speaker 2 00:28:54 Right? Oh yeah. Well, it, it was supposed to be <laugh> Speaker 2 00:28:58 And, um, and so no, we, we all just got in the room hand and it was real chill cuz like, we'd all talked and we did a round before, that's where we all met. And um, we just went in the room. It was super like, lightweight, right? Like there was no stress. And Ethan came in with the idea and uh, like we were going, he came with the idea, said the vibe he wanted. So I laid down a guitar riff, you know, Ross started humming melodies and thinking lyrics. And then we just kind of, I ain't gonna lie, that song kind of wrote itself. It really, that's, that's Speaker 1 00:29:28 Gotta be a cool feeling when the song writes itself. How long were you guys in the room for? Speaker 2 00:29:32 Oh, what was it, Ethan? Two. Like two and a half hours. There was a lot of bullshit in there too. Well, I mean that, Speaker 1 00:29:38 I feel like, I feel like you have to have the bullshit to kind of just keep it light. Cuz then you get stuck in your own head and Speaker 2 00:29:43 You do, man. You do. And really Speaker 1 00:29:45 It doesn't become fun anymore. You gotta have that break pop out, have a smoke, maybe grab a bite to eat, right? Like you've heard it before on, on this podcast, having different guests on where they've talked about ways to cope with and you get stuck in that rut. Right. And the littlest thing could just be like, oh shit, there's an idea. Or there's how we can extend it to this bridge. Speaker 2 00:30:02 Well that's like a lot of times, times in riot's, like, I'll step out for a smoke and it's not because like, oh, I need a smoke. It's honestly just to get out of the room for five minutes. Yeah. You know, it's like, and that, that really helps me out a lot, you know? Should I quit? Yeah. But I like to send of bitches right now. Speaker 1 00:30:17 Dude. I hear you. Absolutely. And then two of the other songs that you said you were talking about, you've got the one that's coming that you're thinking about releasing. Speaker 2 00:30:26 Yeah. Somebody, yeah. I don't, I don't know, it's not gonna be soon, but it's, it's something that like, it's, it's actually a really personal song to me. I was okay. I was in a really bad place and uh, you know, I just kind of broke down 1, 1 1 morning, you know? And it was just kinda one of those thoughts of like, like, dang dude. Like I was exhausted from the road, exhausted from riding. It was just like, wow, this is, this is hard. You know what I'm saying? And, and I saw my guitar and I went upstairs and I actually rode it solo. Which, which never happens. Yeah. But I was just kind of like me pouring emotion into the song. Like, no, not thinking radio or, or nothing like that. It's like, here's the song, it's there it is. You know what I'm saying? And, and people tend to love it, dude. Like they, I I'd say out of most of the songs that I play live, that's the one where people come up and they're like, that song, I love Speaker 1 00:31:16 That song. There's something about a personal song that's what's cool about, about this town. You play a writers round somewhere in midtown or really anywhere East west, sometimes even Broadway, wherever. Yeah. Yeah. The, the crowd, like you said, everybody in this town has, they're here for music. Right, exactly. So they're listening to the words, they're listening to the melody. And I mean, you do a key change, they all lose their shit. Like the littlest thing with, with music, they're all listening. So that's gotta be rewarding as a writer when people are actually listening and giving a shit about they're listening to your message. It Speaker 2 00:31:44 Is. Well, and that's the cool thing is when like, you get other writers that come up and they're like, like, dude, like that hit me. You know? Like, I, I get that. Like the, the melody was sick, loved the lyrics. Like, it's just cool, you know, it's, it's, it's just like another coworker in any other job coming up and saying, Hey man, like, you know, I may not have been a part of this, but like, I respect it and did a great job. And it's, and I feel like, you know, the people that do that in town, like, like that's how relationships are really formed. You just gotta have each other's back. Just like all of us sitting here in this room. Like, you guys are my boys. Yeah. You know, so it's like, oh dude, Speaker 1 00:32:15 Fuck Speaker 2 00:32:16 You. It's like you mess with one, you get us all. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? And, and I think there's just something to be said for that. So Speaker 1 00:32:21 Yeah. That happens a lot in this town and stuff. Now looking, um, coming up where, uh, where are some of the places you're playing? If there's people listening in random markets around the country, where can uh, people possibly see you soon? Speaker 2 00:32:32 Yeah, right now just coming up. Um, some of the shows that I know right off the top of my head, we're gonna, like I said, we're doing more band stuff. So, um, that's really exciting. Uh, not this coming weekend, but the last weekend in August we got, uh, Grayville Days in Grayville, Illinois. We're gonna have Joy Beth Taylor out with that opening. Nice. And then, uh, she'll also be with us the night before, which is the 30th. And um, that's gonna be at Corey, Indiana at the Bad Apple Saloon. Speaker 1 00:33:00 That sounds like a hell of a place. It's like, I'm gonna go get, I'm gonna go have a couple and maybe get an a Tilly at the Bad Apple Saloon. Dude, Speaker 2 00:33:07 This, I ain't gonna lie, this is one of my favorite venues to play. Speaker 1 00:33:09 How so? Why? Well, Speaker 2 00:33:10 It's, it's out in the middle of nowhere, dude. Like Corey, Indiana. Like I said, I'm from a small town. I, I don't know for sure, but I'm gonna guess Corey Indiana has five, 500 people in it. Oh shit. Speaker 1 00:33:24 Or something. Everybody goes to this bar. Yeah. This is the Village Watering hole. Speaker 2 00:33:27 Yeah, exactly. But it's like they did it right dude. It's like they have an inside bar here and then the stage, which is like really good production set up really nice, uh, stage and everything. And they do it right. But then like all of this middle in between the two is a covered concrete patio that like, I I bet the cap on it's like two or 3000 people. Oh shit. You know, so it's like, like, and they pull from all over that part of Indiana to come here and he boys check it out. It's a pretty sick place. Yeah. Shout out out to Bad Apple man. And we, we played there. This be our third time there? I think so. Speaker 1 00:34:02 Oh. So the crowd keeps, like, hopefully the crowd keeps getting bigger and bigger each time you go. And that's Speaker 2 00:34:07 The goal, dude. There Speaker 1 00:34:08 You go bro. That's awesome. Where can people find you on social media? Yeah, Speaker 2 00:34:10 You guys can find me at Garrett Biggs music on, uh, Facebook and Instagram. And Speaker 1 00:34:15 Are you, are you on Twitter? Speaker 2 00:34:17 I am, yeah. That is at the Biggs Music. Alright. Speaker 1 00:34:20 Do you say any crazy shit? Speaker 2 00:34:22 I don't use my Twitter too much, but really I want, Speaker 1 00:34:24 Cause this is what Tyler's been doing recently. He's been putting people on blast and, uh, finding people's Twitters one that we had a lot of fun with was Jodi Chapel. And Tyler May or may not have made an account that looks like a certain, someone in this room with one of their page Speaker 2 00:34:38 Filters, <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:34:39 And, um, he's been hollering at people. How, how do you spell that one? Speaker 2 00:34:43 Uh, well, the, and then B I G G S music. I'm not gonna lie, the only thing you're probably gonna find is like the whole Instagram link cuz I post from Instagram straight. Speaker 1 00:34:53 Okay. Yeah. You, yeah. Which is Speaker 2 00:34:54 Not as much as I do using You're Speaker 1 00:34:56 Using it as a business. That's good. Speaker 2 00:34:57 Right? Well, and like you Speaker 1 00:34:59 Don't, you don't have any like 3:00 AM drunk tweets, like random Speaker 2 00:35:02 Shit. No, I do. I wish I did now, but like, Speaker 1 00:35:05 You don't because that's the kind of shit that'll get back. That'll come back. Could, could come back to haunt you for us. It's funny to just kind of, kind of dig through and stuff, but I don't think, Speaker 2 00:35:14 Well like, even like back in high school, like everyone loved Twitter and like, I just couldn't get on the Twitter train man. It's just not my thing. What Speaker 1 00:35:21 Was the big social media for you in high school? Or it was like, oh shit. Instagram. It was Instagram. Instagram, Speaker 2 00:35:24 Instagram. Instagram. I did like Facebook. Speaker 1 00:35:26 Facebook. You guys have that? Speaker 3 00:35:27 I got one. Speaker 2 00:35:29 Oh shit. Speaker 3 00:35:30 I got one. At no level of success should you turn into an asshole. Speaker 2 00:35:35 I forgot about that. Speaker 1 00:35:36 That's the truth. Speaking Speaker 3 00:35:36 Some Speaker 2 00:35:37 Truth. Speaker 1 00:35:37 Yeah. That is some truth. Yeah. That, that, that is, that is some absolute truth. You gotta stay humble and, and be, be a cool, be a good hang. You gotta be a cool Speaker 2 00:35:45 Person. Yeah. There. Yeah. That I, I forgot about that one. That was good. That was, how long ago was that Boreux? It wasn't that long ago. Speaker 1 00:35:51 Boreux does some research. Speaker 3 00:35:53 I that was June 1st. Speaker 2 00:35:56 Okay. So couple Speaker 1 00:35:57 That's right, right around CMA Fest. Yeah. When people, when people tend to start, tend to start going boop and, and become assholes. Exactly. That makes a lot of sense. Speaker 2 00:36:05 Yeah. That I, here's I remember that tweet now. I was pissed man. I was pissed off. Speaker 3 00:36:12 Thank God my dad raised me on eighties rock. Speaker 2 00:36:14 There you go. Amen to that. There we go. Amen. I'm actually really scared that he's gonna find right now. <laugh>. No. Well Speaker 1 00:36:19 We well we can, we can, we can cut. We can cut that on. No, I'm loving, I'm loving. Speaker 3 00:36:25 We ain't cutting this yet. Oh. Speaker 1 00:36:26 If there was one eighties rock song, you were stuck listening to the rest of your life. What's only it be? Speaker 2 00:36:31 Geez, Speaker 1 00:36:32 I'm assuming Def Leopard. Yeah, but you also said Boston and a few other Speaker 2 00:36:35 Bands. I'm not gonna lie, dude. It's cliche and, but it is the song that got me into the music and to this day I still crank it up, pour some sugar on me. There's something about the guitar wrist. Speaker 1 00:36:45 Just that intro that Yeah, just Speaker 2 00:36:47 The big snare. Like yeah, the song Speaker 3 00:36:49 Just, this is the good one. I will never understand why some venues will pick the worst picture off of my page for the promo photo. Why not use the million other professional ones right by it. <laugh>. Speaker 1 00:37:01 Hey, that's, that is Speaker 2 00:37:02 True man. That is so that is I, yeah, well Speaker 1 00:37:05 Bad Apple Saloon. If you're listening, make sure we're using the right promo picture. Yeah, Speaker 2 00:37:09 Yeah. I will email you promo. Well, the thing I love too is like, I've changed my picture cuz usually it's like if I, if I was doing that, I'd go just get the profile picture off their music page. Speaker 1 00:37:21 Yeah. Speaker 2 00:37:22 Not their personal page. Oh Speaker 1 00:37:23 Shit. So what's the weirdest one they've gotten? Have they gotten like you like I've beach pick with the friends or like Speaker 2 00:37:30 No, they've, it's always been semi music related, you know, but it's just like, it could be like a blurry photo, like, like stretched out. The thing that gets me is like, you know, I'm outta high school now and everything, but somehow I'll book a show and they'll fine a picture of me back in freshman year of high school. <laugh>, here we go. And I show up now and I got a beard man, and they're like, you're not Garrett. I'm like, yeah, I am. I'm just not 12 anymore. You know, like, good Lord. Speaker 3 00:38:00 2017, I went back some. Speaker 2 00:38:03 Dang. Yeah you did. Speaker 3 00:38:04 Yeah. Yeah. B r b going to make pancakes. <laugh> Speaker 1 00:38:08 You a big pancakes guy. Speaker 2 00:38:09 I love pancakes. Dude. Chocolate chips. Shout out to Oh, do blueberries. Come on blueberries. Yeah. Well see, I'm not, I don't actually like, I can't do all that. Like Ms. Kelly, my girl she'll, she'll make me some blueberry pancakes. She's sweet. Speaker 1 00:38:22 Who's Ms. Kelly? Speaker 3 00:38:22 Here's the shout out to your mom. I Speaker 2 00:38:24 Put my girlfriend. Your Speaker 1 00:38:25 Girlfriend, you or Ms. Kelly? Speaker 2 00:38:26 Oh yeah, that's name Speaker 1 00:38:27 Ms. Kelly. You, you're a good Midwestern boy. Fuck. Speaker 3 00:38:30 Here's Kelly. Here's a shout out to his mom Speaker 2 00:38:33 Now she might be listening, so we better be careful. You. Hey Speaker 1 00:38:35 Mama. How we Speaker 3 00:38:36 Doing? Well you tweeted it so the world's seen it. That's true. I need a gas mask every time I get in my mom's car because it smells so heavy. A perfume. Speaker 2 00:38:46 Shout out to mom, dude, she chased your ways. Thank God. I What were you, it Speaker 1 00:38:51 Was like, what were you riding around in? Do you remember the car that you were in that you would tweet this? Speaker 2 00:38:54 It was some white car. Well it was hers. Well Speaker 1 00:38:56 What car, what was she? Is it like, was it, were we talking like old school minivan or Speaker 2 00:38:59 Like No, it was a Nissan. She just got a new car though, so I can't remember remember what it is, but it was just like, I think it was like a Nissan old time. Here's another one is what it was. But Speaker 1 00:39:06 With like those cloth seats for like, the smell just gets stuck in. Speaker 2 00:39:10 Well, well what she would do is like, cuz she used to smoke, she quit. Okay. So like, she would always just spray on the perfume man to like kind of cover up the smoke. But like, you know, if I'm about to get in the car, I'm gonna grab it out of the car, do it outside, you know. Yeah, no, not mom. She gets in the car, you Speaker 1 00:39:29 Negate the motherfucker. Speaker 2 00:39:30 And like right now it's like if you go get in your car right now, you're, you already can't breathe cuz it's so hot out. Yeah, well she would get in the car, close the door spray on this perfume. Not start the car for five minutes. Next thing you know, I'm about to call 9 1 1. You know, like, it was ridiculous. We got in so many arguments about that too. Speaker 3 00:39:48 I have two more for him. Jesus. All right. This dude was busy back in like December of 2017. Like there's some years ago. There's a lot of Speaker 1 00:39:56 'em. Years ago, you're 18. Speaker 3 00:39:58 Wait, first one, first one, peanut butter pie is life. Speaker 1 00:40:02 What the hell? I've never even had a peanut butter pie. Oh my fuck You get that? Gosh. Speaker 3 00:40:06 Did you have a peanut butter pie? Speaker 1 00:40:08 Freaking bet. Boaz. No, I did not have a peanut butter pie. Boaz, Alabama, Speaker 3 00:40:13 You missed out. Well, Speaker 2 00:40:14 You ain't never had peanut butter pie, Speaker 1 00:40:15 But do you put jelly on top of it? Speaker 2 00:40:17 Hell no. Nothing do with this. No. You put some whipped cream if you want, but peanut Speaker 3 00:40:20 Butter pie. It's like pumpkin pie with peanut butter. It sounds so fucking, Speaker 2 00:40:22 I mean, just mad. No. Speaker 1 00:40:25 Drink Speaker 2 00:40:25 Something. No, it, well, it's like Speaker 3 00:40:27 A, you and your northern ladies don't understand. Speaker 2 00:40:29 It's just imagine like a coconut pot, but like peanut butter. That's the best way. Speaker 1 00:40:33 Peanut butter. Just a peanut butter pie. Speaker 2 00:40:36 Yeah. Yeah. Speaker 3 00:40:37 All right. So, all right. Last, maybe the last one. I'm almost slowing the diction brother. This Speaker 2 00:40:42 I'm having fun. This is kind of fun. Speaker 3 00:40:43 This this is a good one. This is one that we can relate to that's happened recently to us. So I had Chipotle for the first time yesterday. My life's now in a better place. Ooh. Speaker 2 00:40:53 I've had, I've had Chipotle in like seven months. Speaker 1 00:40:55 Chipotle mos Qdoba or what's, what are some of the other ones? Those are, they got the big three. Those are the Speaker 2 00:41:01 Big ones. Yeah. So here's the real question. Mexican or Chinese? Speaker 1 00:41:05 Oh fuck Speaker 3 00:41:05 Mexican. Speaker 1 00:41:07 I'm gonna have to go Mexican, but I fucking love Chinese. Speaker 2 00:41:09 Oh dude. Chinese away Speaker 3 00:41:10 From me. Speaker 2 00:41:11 Gimme that can thing. Speaker 3 00:41:12 Hey, listen, whenever people say, is there any food that you don't eat? I literally respond with Yes. Anything that comes from the continent of Asia. Really? Speaker 2 00:41:21 Really? Speaker 3 00:41:23 No Chinese, no Thai. We won't eat. Speaker 2 00:41:26 Oh dude. Speaker 3 00:41:27 Sushi dude. The sushi I eat is from the diner is the ole. It is chicken and rice. Okay. Speaker 1 00:41:33 Oh god. You're ridiculous. Speaker 2 00:41:34 Dude. I love sushi. Speaker 1 00:41:36 You're not gonna pound some sesame chicken in like a quart of white rice. God. Like a quarter of squa Speaker 2 00:41:40 Fried rice. You don't, you don't like the lo main or anything that No. Speaker 3 00:41:42 Oh Speaker 2 00:41:42 My, my gosh. Well, well fucking Speaker 1 00:41:45 Used spaghetti Speaker 2 00:41:46 And stuff. Speaker 3 00:41:46 Yeah, I eat spaghetti. Well, it's Speaker 2 00:41:48 Just like that just different, Speaker 3 00:41:49 Not season, Speaker 1 00:41:50 It's just like that, but different. Speaker 2 00:41:51 Oh my gosh. I live off that stuff. Yeah, dude, I really do. Speaker 3 00:41:54 But the one Chinese place that I found that I liked was in New Jersey. Yeah. And we ordered takeout one night there whenever I was, uh, with somebody up there and it was like takeout for like four people. It was like $500. Are Speaker 2 00:42:08 You serious? Speaker 3 00:42:08 Oh, it was high end. Speaker 1 00:42:10 Well, yeah. Well, there's some high, like back home I would go back, back home. You take a girl out to a Chinese restaurant for dinner, you're not spending less than 50 bucks. I mean, it's like good high quality up there. See, I'm no kung Powell cat. You know Speaker 2 00:42:21 If you, if you take a girl out, is that what you just said? Speaker 3 00:42:23 Shout out the podcast. Speaker 1 00:42:25 Kung Powell cat. Yeah, yeah. Speaker 2 00:42:27 We got this one over. I don't even know where. It's over in West End and it's, it's actually freaking Speaker 1 00:42:32 Bomb. What's it called? Cause I like Chinese food, but only thing I keep driving by. Speaker 3 00:42:35 I do see something you hate Speaker 2 00:42:37 Sahi or something like that. I can't even remember it. Speaker 3 00:42:39 He hates, there's something he hates from, uh, 2017 again. Man, God, I hate tomatoes. Speaker 1 00:42:44 Fucking Twitter. You don't like tomatoes? I don't. Speaker 2 00:42:46 No. Really? I don't actually, Speaker 3 00:42:49 I'll tell you what I hate even more is pickles. Speaker 2 00:42:51 Oh Speaker 1 00:42:51 Dude, I love, yeah, we have a, we have a jar of just pickle juice. Cuz I'm certain someone's been wanting to save for pickle back shots. I have not seen 'em. Take one goddamn pickle back shots. Let's Speaker 2 00:42:59 Do pickle back. Speaker 1 00:43:00 We're done Got, we got a ginormous jar pickle juice. We'll do pickle for Speaker 3 00:43:04 Weeks. We got pickles are the most invasive piece of food there is. That's Speaker 1 00:43:10 A big word for Tyler. Invasive. Wow. Speaker 3 00:43:12 Because if you put a pickle on my sandwich, Speaker 1 00:43:15 On your sandwich Speaker 3 00:43:16 <laugh> and you and I say, Hey, I don't want that off. And Speaker 1 00:43:19 You take it off from Alabama and you Speaker 3 00:43:21 Take it off, I'm still gonna taste that goddamn pickle. Speaker 2 00:43:24 That's val. See that's, see Speaker 3 00:43:26 I have Speaker 2 00:43:27 The same Speaker 3 00:43:28 Tomatoes Speaker 2 00:43:28 Times with me is like, you know, like a pickle or a pepper or any, basically anything else out of the ground. It has like flavor to it. A tomato, it literally just tastes like dirt Speaker 1 00:43:41 <laugh>. Like there's Speaker 2 00:43:42 No flavor. It just tastes like dirt. Speaker 3 00:43:44 Trying to get 2017. I'm trying to get back to the good stuff here, man. Speaker 1 00:43:48 Good God. Um, so Garrett, what song do you wanna play for us today, Speaker 2 00:43:52 Ma'am? Um, shoot, I'll just do the current single right now. Let's just do that. Yeah. Three minutes at a time is what it's called. Speaker 1 00:43:58 Okay. What went into that one real quick before we have you pick up that guitar? Speaker 2 00:44:01 Wait, what's that? Speaker 1 00:44:02 What went into that song for you? Speaker 2 00:44:03 Oh dude. Um, so I actually wrote it before I moved to Nashville. Okay. And, uh, I wrote it with my buddy Shane Lunsford. Great, great writer, great friend. Um, and he came over to the house one time. He lives in Brazil, Indiana, about an hour and a half away. So he drove over and, uh, I can't remember who had the idea. I really can't, I could have been like one of those mutual ideas. Okay. I don't know. It's been hell two years since we wrote it now, but, um, oh buddy Speaker 1 00:44:30 Fucking Ethan Willis with this guy. See, I don't know if you put that in front me. I would've thought it was Mountain Dew and I probably would've drank it and then vomited all, all over the place. Speaker 2 00:44:36 I just thinking like, that's a bunch of pickle juice Speaker 1 00:44:38 For Yeah. That's been sitting there for weeks. Ugh. Speaker 3 00:44:40 I can Speaker 1 00:44:40 Smell it. Oh, Tyler's getting gagged. Ugh. Speaker 2 00:44:43 You gonna slide it closer to you, dude? Speaker 1 00:44:45 Hey Tyler. Put it in that Yeti dude. Get that there. Christ. Speaker 2 00:44:49 I'm wanna do that here in a minute, but that is a ton of pickle juice. You Speaker 1 00:44:52 Dude drink at all? She's, I wanna make sure you have milk. Good Speaker 2 00:44:54 God. Well I'm gonna drink half of it and then I'm gonna give the other half to Tyler. Speaker 1 00:44:57 Nah. Yeah, <laugh>, Speaker 2 00:44:59 But, Speaker 1 00:44:59 Uh, say wrote two years ago. Shaney. Lunsford. Speaker 2 00:45:02 Yeah. So, uh, we wrote it and uh, dude, honestly the chorus to it just fell in our lap. I goes, it kind of fell in our lap to the point it's like, oh shit dude, we're gonna be outta here in an hour and we're gonna go to the fair. Cause I remember the fair was going on and we got so pissed off deeper into the right. We went to the fair to get some food, but, um, Speaker 1 00:45:18 Fair food. What are you eating? I was just, I've been at a bunch of fairs in Bumble fuck Alabama recently and I've learned what good, fair food is. I'm not talking like passam on a stick. I thought I was gonna be eating pasta on a stick. I did have gator on a stick. Speaker 2 00:45:29 How's Gator? I've never had Gator. It Speaker 1 00:45:30 Tasted like chicken. It was pretty good. Speaker 3 00:45:31 Gator's like chicken with a little bit of fishy taste. Speaker 2 00:45:34 I'd be down for that. Speaker 1 00:45:35 It's really good. What's your fair food or choice? Oh geez. Speaker 2 00:45:39 Honestly like loaded fries. Speaker 3 00:45:41 Yeah. Speaker 1 00:45:41 What's what are loaded fries to you? Just Speaker 2 00:45:43 Like with cheese and Speaker 3 00:45:44 Stuff, stuff like that. Bacon. Speaker 1 00:45:45 Yeah, bacon. Little JLo paint. Speaker 2 00:45:47 I can imagine a loaded baked potato, but just french fries. That's pretty much Speaker 1 00:45:50 What it sounds good. So, Speaker 3 00:45:51 Yeah, it's good. We're gonna, we're gonna say one last tweet for him. Jesus. I found the 1 2 21 17. I love when no one is in Dollar General store at night because I can practice my harmony singing and no one will laugh at me. <laugh> Speaker 1 00:46:07 Singing harmonies at the dg. Well, I Speaker 2 00:46:10 Used to work at Dollar General. Speaker 1 00:46:11 Oh no shit. Yeah, yeah. Back in high school. Speaker 2 00:46:14 If you really want to dig, go to Facebook, search Garrett Biggs Dollar General. It, it, that just came to mind. It might pop up, but my boss loved Brett Eldridge and like I've known, I knew her my whole life. Yeah. Because she, um, her daughter was a year younger than me and so like her, I have a twin sister Tia and so they played ball together and I, like I said, just known her my whole life and I came into work to get something or came into Dollar General before my shift to get something and um, and she's like, if you learn, dang it, what song? It was a Brett Elridge song. I think it was, uh, I don't know, I can't remember. It was, it was, I think it was off his first record. Okay. It was, it was a big hit for him. I just can't remember what it is. Um, if you learn that she would, she was like gonna buy me a subway sandwich that night for dinner. Speaker 1 00:47:00 So you're like, yo, free dinner. Speaker 2 00:47:02 Oh yeah, dude. So I went home and I learned it and we took a video of me sitting on a car in like my work uniform after that. And the video, I don't know how, how that thing got like 40,000 views, man. Speaker 1 00:47:13 Oh shit. Yeah, it Speaker 2 00:47:13 Like, it got shared around. I was like, what is, and I got all the way to the, uh, the CEO of Dollar General and he like put it on the page and stuff and like, he came to town and he was like, yo can like, can we meet and stuff. And I was like, I ended up quitting like two weeks later after that. Dude. Like I, it was a good job. Paid the bills. That's about it. So, yeah. Speaker 1 00:47:32 Do you Yeah, yeah. Feel that. Speaker 2 00:47:34 Yeah, but I mean, I did learn to sing Harmony in Dollar General, so there you go. I ain't saying I'm good at it, but I tried. Speaker 1 00:47:39 That's awesome man. Yeah. So, so what's the song you're do for us one more time? <laugh>? Oh Speaker 2 00:47:43 Yeah. No, no. So basically the song's just about, you know, like three minutes at a Time is how, you know, songs kind of, they soak in moments in themselves. Yeah. You like, um, you know, like for me, I got the, I I think I may have had like this thought and he had the title, but like for me, whenever I listen to Back In Black by ac dc I'm always gonna be cruising through, uh, Illinois on Friendship Road before. Oh, thanks buddy. Um, I'm always gonna be cruising through Illinois on Friendship Road before I can't even remember what I was gonna say. You made me go blank Willis. You made me go blank. Three Speaker 1 00:48:23 Minute, three minutes at a time. You're you're talking about the Speaker 2 00:48:25 Song? Yeah. Cut that out or something. All right. But, um, but no, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be listening to Back in Black Cruising Down Friendship Road, um, doing that and like the Only Back in Black will bring that memory back and just like pour some sugar on me. Will, I'll be, I'll always be on my way in the back of the truck going camping, you know what I'm saying? And so, um, we kind of just took that idea about how songs capture memories and capture moments and, um, these memories and flashbacks will, you know, play three minutes at a time when the song's over, it's on to the next memory, you know, so, um, that's kind of what the song's about. Yeah. Hope guys like it. Speaker 1 00:49:01 Oh dude. Awesome. And you wrote that one, you said Shane Ludford. Speaker 2 00:49:04 Yep. Shane Ludford. Speaker 1 00:49:05 Shane Ludford. Awesome.
