Show Notes

On Episode 320 of Outside The Round, Matt Burrill sits down with rising country artist Jordan Cobb for her first-ever podcast appearance. Fresh off her first weekend opening for Lauren Watkins on the If I’m Being Honest Tour, Jordan talks about falling in love with life on the road, learning from Lauren, meeting fans for the first time and realizing that performing is exactly where she wants to be. Jordan takes us back to growing up around Charlotte, North Carolina, going to country shows with her friends and falling in love with the music of Florida Georgia Line, Toby Keith, Sam Hunt and the 2010s country era. She explains why she wants her music to soundtrack tailgates, bonfires and the moments people remember with their friends, while also sharing her journey from writing songs as a kid to moving to Nashville, attending Belmont and eventually going all-in on music. The two also dive into the breakout response to “You Got That,” building the “Cobb Mob” through social media, fans already requesting and singing unreleased songs like “Baby Again,” and the importance of letting people see her real personality online. Plus, Jordan talks Gamecock football, her love for Nashville’s songwriting community and plenty of new music she’s been teasing for the road ahead.

[00:00:12] Speaker A: Come on. [00:00:15] Speaker B: This is Outside the Round with Matt Burrill for Rage Rowdy Podcast. What's going on, guys and girls? Welcome back to another episode of Outside the Round with me, Matt Burrell. Today, a very special guest. A girl who's been on a damn rocket ship just. Just hit her first week of touring out on the road with the if I'm being honest tour with our girl, Lauren watkins. It is Ms. Jordan. Kov says, it has been so long since we've gotten to see each other. [00:00:41] Speaker C: I'm so sad. But now we're finally here. I am so excited. I'm like, buzzing. This is awesome. [00:00:46] Speaker B: So, first weekend of tour. How'd it go? [00:00:48] Speaker C: It was. I keep saying everyone. I told my grandparents yesterday, I was like, it feels like I got engaged this weekend. It's like all I can talk about. And it's just weird because I've only done it twice and, like, I'm an opener and it's fine. But I literally am like, this is the best thing ever. Like, I just want to do this all the time. Granted, I haven't seen, like, a bad side of it yet or, like a hard, hard side of it. It's all been a great experience. I'm literally, like, freaking out about it. [00:01:12] Speaker B: And two of my favorite places you got to go. [00:01:14] Speaker C: So awesome. The granary was an incredible venue. [00:01:17] Speaker B: What a cool spot, right? [00:01:19] Speaker C: So cool. And they do, like, when I walked in, Tim, the owner was like, giving us a tour and they have all these guitars on the wall of, like, every artist who's ever played there. So I got to sign a guitar too. And, like, it was just so cool. And then Carol's pub was insane. I just like the spot. It was like, very movie esque. [00:01:36] Speaker B: And Chicago's a huge market, like, and thank God you got to go up there when it was still warm outside because the winter up there. [00:01:43] Speaker C: Your version of War was different than mine for sure. But it was very. It was awesome. But it was definitely not warm, I can tell you that much. [00:01:50] Speaker B: How cold was it? [00:01:51] Speaker C: It was like 60 degrees. So it's like Jordan. [00:01:54] Speaker B: They deal with like 20 degrees up there. [00:01:56] Speaker C: I don't deal with 20 degrees. 50 or lower. I'm out. [00:01:59] Speaker B: You are Carolina, girl. [00:02:01] Speaker C: As soon as I touched down back in Nashville, I was like, I don't have to wear a sweatshirt. This is great. [00:02:06] Speaker B: How is the. The friendship with our good friend Lauren Watkins been? [00:02:10] Speaker C: It was crazy. [00:02:10] Speaker B: She's a G, isn't she? [00:02:11] Speaker C: She's a G. She feels like my older sister. I'm like, this is the coolest thing ever. I get, like, a mentor and a friend on tour and just, like, asking her stuff. Like, oh, so what. What do you think about this? And, like, how should I go about doing this? How do you. What do you do before you go on stage? Like, how do you take care of your voice and stuff? Because she's, like, a vet. She's a road vet, and I'm a rookie, so it's been nice to have her. And she's a girl too, so that's been really nice. Her team is lovely. I've just been. It's been nice just to hang out with her and, like, talk to her band mates and stuff like that. It's just fun. I'm soaking up every experience. And I will say, like, through the learning curves come so fast that I'm like, oh, my God. But it's so weird. Like, in writing rooms, too, you have longer to, like, sit with things and how different people work. But, like, just being on the road for two days, I'm like, oh, we're moving at light speed. No. Okay, for sure. I'm ready. [00:03:00] Speaker B: And Lauren, to me, you guys, sonically, are very similar, and she loves the same music that you do, which, by the way, I love the throwback FGL shirt. [00:03:09] Speaker C: I just got it off Depop. It's one of those things that you forget you ordered. And I was like, what? The package? And I was like, okay, come on. But, yeah, I was like, seven during this tour, so it's nice to have a little memory. [00:03:21] Speaker B: Which tour is that? [00:03:23] Speaker C: I don't even think it says it on there, but it's probably on the back. I don't know. I would like to say it's anything Goes. It looks like that cover. Yeah, I think it is. Anything Goes. [00:03:32] Speaker B: Yeah. So I was in college when that came out, and I went to so many FGL shows. That was back when I drank. Like, the F was back. And I drank back when I drank. Oh, I drank so much. Fireball. [00:03:43] Speaker C: Jordan, dude, like, that kind of fits your vibe. [00:03:46] Speaker B: Like, FGL tailgates were just. [00:03:49] Speaker C: I'm so jealous. [00:03:50] Speaker B: The best. But you know what? You're part of an era that is coming. Bringing. [00:03:54] Speaker C: It's coming back. It's literally coming back. [00:03:56] Speaker B: And it's the fun in country music, it is. Like, you have plenty of heartbreak songs that I know. [00:04:02] Speaker C: The Son again, like, Sue Me. No. Literally, no. [00:04:05] Speaker B: And. And it's cool because Lauren's part of that movement as well, so. What a perfect first touring experience. [00:04:11] Speaker C: Even, like, the first. I Think the first video I ever saw of her, I was literally in high school, and I saw a video of her and Will playing as a bluebird. It was, like, stuck in my ways. And then I went on this deep dive. I listened to Ole Miss, like, the Garage sessions, and I was like, this girl is making the music that I want to make. Like, this is insane. And just, like, totally fell in love with her sound. I was like, oh, girls can do it. I'm gonna do it too. Like, this is awesome. And obviously FGL and stuff like that. Like, the whole Sam Hunt stuff, I'm just like, can I, like, listen to that on a tailgate? Like, that makes me just. It puts me in a place where, like, I wish I was this age in 2015 or 2016. And it's just. It hurts to think that you were in college living the dream. [00:04:52] Speaker B: That's how I feel about the butt Rock stuff. That's how I feel about Creed and Nickelback and, like, Bizkit. I was the age. The age you were for FGL and, like. And like, Aldine, the Luke Bryan's spring break albums, all that good stuff. The age you were during. That was the age I was during. Creed, Limp, Bizkit, Nickelback, Three Doors Down. [00:05:13] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:05:13] Speaker B: A great era that. I think those are so similar because the fans were just rabid. And for whatever reason, people hate on it. I don't get. [00:05:20] Speaker C: I don't get it. I really don't get it. It's so weird also, like, when you listen to that music, like, you are put in that place. Exactly. You are thinking nothing else. But I'm having so much fun right now. And, like, I probably can't remember most of the day, but, like, this. I'm having a blast. Like, that's the only music I want to make is just like, let's go have fun. Like, I just want to be played during your favorite moments, like, while you're making memories and stuff. [00:05:43] Speaker B: Yeah, absolutely. [00:05:44] Speaker C: Like, oh, my God. It, like, gets me fired up talking about it. [00:05:47] Speaker B: Like, I love it. [00:05:48] Speaker C: I just want. I literally just want to hit it. Like a Head Bopper song right now. Like, come on. Oh, come on. That's awesome. [00:05:54] Speaker B: So I want to. I want to rewind back. So you're from the Charlotte, North Carolina area, right? [00:05:59] Speaker C: Charlotte, represent. Come on. No, it's awesome. I wouldn't want to grow up anywhere else. It was. I had the best childhood, honestly. It was great. Great high school experience. Charlotte's the place. We got beach, mountains, acres. Literally anything you could ever want. [00:06:13] Speaker B: And in my opinion, one of the best venues in the world in Coyote Joe's. [00:06:17] Speaker C: Oh, Coyote Joe's. He knows ball. [00:06:20] Speaker B: I do. I've been there many times. [00:06:21] Speaker C: I don't even think I've ever been inside there. I'm still 20. But, yeah, there will be a time. There will be a time. Yeah. [00:06:29] Speaker B: Did you go to a lot of concerts growing up? [00:06:30] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. Spectrum, was it called? I think it was called Spectrum center when I was younger. My first concert was Justin Bieber. Okay, that was awesome. Spectrum center, the amphitheater near. Near me. I can't. I don't know. Pnc. That was, like, where I went to all these country concerts. Like Luke Bryan, Zach Brown band. That was, like, the thing in high school, like, a concert of PNC around this time of year, too. Just literally take me back. Like, oh, my God. [00:06:57] Speaker B: And being in the lawn with your friends, the lawn ticket. That was where it was at. Because you could have as big of a group with you as you want, and you made so many friends on the lawn. [00:07:07] Speaker C: Yes. There's, like, the most random people from other schools, and then there's, like, a mosh pit, like, midway through. Everyone's got the flash on Snapchat. You're just like, let's go. [00:07:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:07:16] Speaker C: And then your friend's like, I'm gonna go get another drink. And then you don't see them for another hour. And it's. Yeah, okay. Yeah, it's the lawn. [00:07:22] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. I. Yeah. My first lawn concert was Toby Keith. The day. The day I grad. It was the day at. The day after I graduated high school. So it was 2013. I know I'm aging myself here, but [00:07:37] Speaker C: switch lives for a day because. Are you kidding me? Like, Toei Keys, my favorite artist. Like, what? You got to see that the day [00:07:45] Speaker B: after, you know, And. And the card on that, too. What's so cool about that era of, like. And even the era you're talking about of see Zach Brown and seeing Luke Bryan and seeing Jason Aldean and all those shows are the people that were opening those shows. So for that tour, I think it was. It was Toby Keith and then it was Kip Moore. Something about a truck had just come out, so it was like, backwards hat. Backwards Hat Party kit more. And then Drake White with his first project. It's great. Drake White and the Big Fire. [00:08:12] Speaker C: That is. So where did you see him? [00:08:13] Speaker B: That was PNC bank in New Jersey. So it was our. Our. Our amphitheater on the Jersey Shore. [00:08:19] Speaker C: I know y' all got down on the Shore lawn. [00:08:21] Speaker B: Dude, it was crazy. [00:08:24] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:08:24] Speaker B: There's just to me something so special about have being. And I went to some shows in my family too, but there's something about going to shows with your friends in high school or early in college and it being like starting at the tailgate and then trying to herd the cats to get inside. [00:08:41] Speaker C: Herding the cat's the hardest part. It should be a five minute walk. It's a 20 minute walk. You're like doing your last shooters and like the trunk area. Like maybe cover security guards walking by or like whatever your boots in the gravel. It's just, it's honestly peak and the weather is like at its perfect temperature. Yeah. It's not too hot. Or maybe it is and you're like sweating on the lawn and yeah. You're just like, I just want to sit down. Like it's not quite packed yet. The seats are never full? No, the seats are never full. It's just the lawn and that's like where you want to be. No chair. You're standing or you're sitting on the grass. [00:09:13] Speaker B: And then, and then the mass exodus from the lawn back to the parking lot. [00:09:17] Speaker C: Dude, it's like straight. You're just. [00:09:19] Speaker B: And then it's like you want to, you want to sit in traffic or do you want to just hang out and crank some more music up? [00:09:24] Speaker C: Exactly. [00:09:24] Speaker B: And then you, then you. It gets to like one in the morning and you're like, oh, we got to go. Like they're telling us we gotta leave the parking lot. It's that post show party. [00:09:32] Speaker C: Welcome. Just, just a little bit. Oh, literally the best memories. Wait, now I want to go back. [00:09:37] Speaker B: Well, what's really cool is about where you're at right now, sis, is you're going to be one of those artists on the, on those stage. Like before too long you're going to be playing those sheds. [00:09:46] Speaker C: Dude, I hope so. You are so excited. Like after, literally I've played two shows but after doing that I just, I have the bug and I feel like, I feel like I'm not allowed to say that you are because like it was so much fun. Like, I'm not kidding. I got off stage, like before I got on, I was like freaking out. I was so nervous. And then as soon as I got off I was like, wait, like I want to go back. Like this is so fun and just. I can't even explain like how that feels. It was the weirdest like, and I was kind of nervous that I wouldn't like it. Like I've been doing all these TikToks and co writes. Like, what if I get up there and, like, the artist thing isn't for me? Like, what if I hate it and I suck at it? Oh, but it was quite the opposite. I was like, this is my bread and butter. This is my eggs and toast. Like, this is my jam. [00:10:32] Speaker B: This is my eggs and toast. I've never heard that before. [00:10:35] Speaker C: That was kind of off the dome. I don't know where that came from. That was kind of weird. [00:10:39] Speaker B: But anyway, can't wait for that to be in a song. [00:10:41] Speaker C: Yeah. Nice. Perfect. Nice. [00:10:43] Speaker B: I love it. [00:10:43] Speaker C: I love it. I do it to myself. [00:10:45] Speaker B: No, that's great. And then it was. So we got to. The content's been freaking awesome, by the way. Both here in Nashville, but on the road and seeing fans come out for you. Lily and I were talking about it real quick. When you guys got in here, the Cob mob and like, folks with. Folks with the lyrics on their. [00:11:05] Speaker C: On their shirt, I was like, this is the best. I could cry right now. Like, I just. The concept of someone, like, going to, like, a Marshalls and buying a plane. My T shirt just, like, be like, let me get three different Sharpies to write this on there for this. And like, I've never met them. Like. And also that's such a weird thing too, is you post TikToks for so long and you're like, I have no idea if literally anyone's watching this. They could just drop a like and scroll. They don't know me. Like, it's like, fake. Like, the numbers are, like, fake, you know? And then you actually meet these people and they're like, oh, I love your, like, one random, like, niche poll song. And I'm like, I don't know how you know that, but, like, that just made my year. And I just want to talk to them for, like, 30 minutes. But everything goes so quickly, and I just want to, like, tell me your life story. So, like, how did you, like, even find this? Or, like, like, my music? And you drove all this way. I'm like, this is insane. [00:11:50] Speaker B: Yeah. I heard somebody drove three hours by themselves. [00:11:52] Speaker C: Yeah, that's actually insane. Like, I was shocked. I was like, are you sure? Like, can I help you with the gas money? I hope you, like, got your money's worth, because this is my second show ever. I don't want you to get your hopes up. Like, three hour drive is kind of a lot. Like, I don't know if I'd even be doing all that, but, yeah, yeah, it was. It was the coolest thing. Like, that. That's definitely. The highlight is like, oh, my God. Like, I signed a T shirt. Like, I signed a hat. Like, I've never signed anything. This weekend, too. [00:12:20] Speaker B: Isn't it weird when you have to, like, oh, my God. There's, like, pressure because you're like, I want the handwriting to be neat enough, but I'm like, what exactly do you [00:12:29] Speaker C: say to the choir? I literally, someone came up to me and was like, can you sign my T shirt? And I forewarned them. I've never signed a T shirt before. So I signed it, and I totally screwed up. I screwed up the signature. It looked horrible. Mind you, I'm feeling awful because they bought one of my T shirts, and I'm like, great. They're never gonna see me again. And then they're like, no, just sign it twice. So I signed it twice. It was ridiculous, but it was so much fun just getting to talk to people and hear about where they're from, what their interests are, how they found me at the Plain City show right up front. As soon as I got up, there were three people up front, like, wearing my hat, and I was like, wait, this is crazy. Like, the pressure's on. And then someone wearing the hat was wearing an FGL shirt, and I was like, wow. Like, this is. [00:13:15] Speaker B: They get it. [00:13:16] Speaker C: They get it. Like, that's the people I want wearing those hats. You know, it just feels good that someone out there, like, connects with my music taste, you know, and they, like, get it. They understand and get it. Just getting to talk to them, like, oh, we drove this way. Like, I've seen. Someone said, like, I've seen your Springsteen cover. And I came to this, and I was like, wow. Like, you have high expectations of what you're getting into. Like, just be cognizant. But I don't know. It's so surreal, and I'm just. I still, like, can't stop thinking about it. I genuinely feels like I got engaged. Like, I'm thinking about the wedding and stuff. Like, that's literally what it feels like. It's so weird. [00:13:48] Speaker B: No, that's freaking awesome. And that, to me, tells me that you're doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing. Like, I can't imagine you doing anything else besides music. Like, you just love. You love this thing so much. [00:14:00] Speaker C: Oh, it is, like, like, the most precious thing in my entire life. Like, obviously family and stuff. But, like, it is. It is my. My, like, the one thing. It makes me feel so Purposeful and I don't know, just like genuinely breathes air into me. It's like. I, I don't. I can't even describe it. It just feels like. I don't know, it feels like I'm going like 100 miles an hour in like a Porsche. I don't know. It's weird. It's just like, ah, let's go. [00:14:25] Speaker B: What's the family reaction been like? Because you've had a. You have to. I. I would imagine you have a supportive family. We haven't had a chance. Which, by the way, sh. Family for raising Jordan Cobb. Nice and rowdy. She is absolutely one of our favorites. That is here in Nashville. But talk about that. Like having the supportive family and them letting you come out here to pursue your dream as an. As a graduate of high school because you went to Belmont, right? [00:14:47] Speaker C: Yes, I did. Just dropped out of Belmont. [00:14:50] Speaker B: Congratulate a. A lot of people think the college dropout is a bad thing, but if you're pursuing music here in Nashville and you drop out, that means. That means it's working. [00:15:00] Speaker C: I guess it does. Literally, I tell this story now. It's so funny. But my mom, I'll tell about my family in a second. But my mom called me in like July. Like, Lily and I had done the dropout form, done all that in like June. And in July was in Connecticut for my friend's birthday and she had like a dartie. And I. My mom called me as. I'm like playing pong. My mom's like, why did I just get an email that you haven't dropped out officially yet? And I, I literally was like, lily's got it. Lily's got it. And I called Lily and she's like, okay, I got it for real this time. Like, we're good. And I literally was like, give me gents. And I like, hit that. And I was like, okay, drop out. Like, but it was so. It was just funny. I was like, this is crazy. All right, now. Like, there's. No. Not that it was a crutch, but like, now there's no crutch. Like, this is like full time job. [00:15:48] Speaker B: You're all in. [00:15:49] Speaker C: I'm all in. I'm all in. But my family is like, kind of like that. Like, it's like, if you're going to be a mom, be the best mom. If you're going to be. If you're gonna work in business, be a CEO. Like growing up in a sports family, too. I have two older brothers and you've met one of Them, but they're both very super. Just driven and ambitious. And it's always a competition thing in my house. Like, did you work out today? Did you, like, did you grind this week? Like, how hard are you working? It's just like, oh, my God. Yeah, I'm working. Like, why does everything have to be a competition? But it's funny. Cause one of them is, like, ultra country music fan, like, super fgl, and is like, have you met Ella Langley? And the other one's like, yeah. Like, it's not that big of a deal. Like, who cares? Like, just keep working harder. So I kind of get the best of both worlds there. Yeah, my parents are very supportive. My. My dad keeps being like, I'm waiting till you get on the highway and talking about buzz and all this. And my mom's just trying to ask questions and understand. So, yeah, everything is awesome, and I feel very lucky. But growing up, it was very much like, if you want to be the best, you have to make the most sacrifices. And, like, I tried to equate it to sports as much as I could. Like, even dropping out of school and stuff like that. It's kind of like, well, you think Steph Curry wants to go to the court every day? No, he wants to win. [00:17:05] Speaker B: He does. [00:17:05] Speaker C: Exactly. [00:17:06] Speaker B: Does. [00:17:06] Speaker C: Exactly. So it's just kind of like that. But that's kind of motivated me and helped me. And even after tour this weekend, like, the one thing, one, like, word I can describe it as is, like, motivating. Like, now I'm like, oh, like, I have a bug. And now I just want to, like, practice my set and. And, like, work on the transitions even more. [00:17:24] Speaker B: How long. How long of a set do they have you doing? Because I know it's acoustic opening. [00:17:28] Speaker C: I think it was, like, 35 minutes. [00:17:29] Speaker B: That's pretty good. [00:17:30] Speaker C: It was awesome. [00:17:31] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:17:31] Speaker C: Such a. It was such a good time. And, like, the talking is so fun. There's nothing I love more than, like, a bit, like, in the middle of it or, like, picking off. [00:17:38] Speaker B: What have you been doing? [00:17:39] Speaker C: Because, oh, my God, you got to [00:17:40] Speaker B: spoil it for me. [00:17:41] Speaker C: So this girl in the crowd, I'm like, I pulled a classic. Like, is anybody not from Chicago? And this woman's like, I'm from Mississippi. I was like, obviously, they're seeing Lauren. So I was like, oh, are you an Ole Miss fan? She goes, I'm a Mississippi State fan. I was like, you know, you came to a Lauren Watkins show, right? Like, you might want to, like, not say that out loud. Why would you call that you're at a Lauren Watkins show. So I picked on her for a little bit, but I just like to tease and, you know, banter and stuff like that. But it's just been so fun getting to meet people. And I. In Ohio, shout out to Grayson if you're watching this. The people I signed the shirt twice, they came up to me later. This. This girl my age came up to me later and was like, you signed my ex's shirt twice. Can you sign mine three times? And I was like, oh, shit. Like, this is about to be crazy. So they kept talking to me and laughing, and at one point, he was like, this. This guy and the girl. I don't know if I'm even explaining this right, but they were both up at the Merch Ruth, and I was talking to both of them, the two exes, and he was like, I hate your shirt. Like, I hate Ohio State. And I was like, well, what else was I supposed to wear? Like, I'm not gonna wear a Michigan shirt in Ohio. Like, what am I supposed to do? So he signed, like, the back of my shirt or something and, like, wrote, like, this is my first time, like, him signing a shirt. And he, like, got a koozie. And I wrote, go bucks on it. And his mom was like, you might want to be careful. This could be worth a lot of money someday. And he was like, not anymore. Not with the buck signature. So I was just having a good time. Like, nothing I love more. I just like talking to people. And then they were like, you come to our tailgate. I was like, wait. But, like, that sounds so fun. [00:19:16] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:19:16] Speaker C: But hopefully I'll see them again. So it was nice to meet you guys. If you're watching this, I. You guys made my year. [00:19:22] Speaker B: That, to me, is the best way to handle. Because it's so many. So many people. And, like, especially in that Bro country era, they talk about they don't have fans. They have family and they have friends. You know? Like, I think of, like, Brantley Gilbert with the BG Nation. Like, he knows his super fans by name. Like, when I was with the Muscadine Bloodline guys, I knew. I still know all their. All their fans were like. When I was selling merch, if I went to Starkville, Mississippi, or Oxford, Mississippi, I know I'd see this lady, Brandy Hewitt, and she's been to probably. She was at, I think, like, 50 muscadine bloodline shows by 2019. So she's probably at, like, three or 400 now. But I knew that every time I'd See her, she'd buy like a couple hundred bucks worth of merch to give to her friends at church the next morning. She'd like spread the chills, she'd spread the gospel. And that to me is what I'm seeing. With your first weekend of shows and you're, you're already shouting out fans by name and building those connections like you become homies with them. [00:20:16] Speaker C: That was the best part. It was like my first time, like meeting a band, like ever. And that even feels weird to like call it that. It feels like woo. But it's like, it's just weird because I don't know, you just post for so long, you're like, okay, it's actually like some. Something's working. Something like, thank God, like one thing is working. And I would remember like literally every name. Like I wrote. I tried to write all this down. And after, because I didn't bring a journal, like, it just, it would take too long to write all his down. So like, whatever. But it was just like, I can't even describe it. It was just so cool. Getting to talk to people and like learn about who they are and like, oh, like, this is my demographic. This is kind of cool. Like to gauge in Ohio or like Chicago or like people who just go out of their way to drive or do that sort of thing just like, literally means the world to me. It's crazy. So many firsts for me this weekend. And that was probably my favorite part was like meeting a fan. Like, I just literally want to talk to you and learn everything about your life. [00:21:07] Speaker B: So that's awesome. I love it. When did you start seeing the ball rolling on social media? Because I remember meeting you at the Duck Blind. This had to be like. [00:21:15] Speaker C: Yes, I remember. [00:21:16] Speaker B: This had to be. Was it last year or two years ago? [00:21:20] Speaker C: Last year? [00:21:20] Speaker B: August of last year. And I think it was. I think it might have been Jack Rowton. [00:21:25] Speaker C: Yes, yes, it was Jack Rowan or [00:21:27] Speaker B: Ryan cone or it was one, one of the two of them that had introduced us and I think. So when. So had you just gotten to town at that point? [00:21:35] Speaker C: No, I had been there for a year at that point, but I'd always, I'd always peeped around, not gonna lie, [00:21:41] Speaker B: like, okay, so you were there. [00:21:43] Speaker C: Okay, I've been. Knew about you. But I've always just been a fan. Like year round is like the round play. So I was like, just gotta keep going and there'll be a time where. [00:21:52] Speaker B: Because at that point it seemed like you were posting stuff but the fire didn't really get started until not long after that. [00:21:59] Speaker C: I don't. I don't know. To be honest, I kind of just post and get off the app and move on because it's overwhelming and weird. Like, I don't want to, like, see. It's just a weird, weird thing. But I don't know. Covers have worked really well for me in my favor, so I don't know. I genuinely don't know. I just post my favorite songs and sometimes they do well, sometimes I don't. It's the name of the game, though. I think consistency just really helped me over time. Just, yeah, slam, slam. Like, do not stop posting, whatever you do. And then once it becomes a habit, it gets a little bit easier. But there have been days where I just do the content day by day. Like, I don't stack it up like that for some reason. Like, I'd like doing a day of. But I'm such a perfectionist about it. So it takes me an hour to film one video because I'm like, that one note, that one thing. [00:22:44] Speaker B: I also love the way you've been teasing, especially all this unreleased music, which we're gonna get into, talking about what you have coming. I mean, come on, you know? But you've got so many, so many songs that you've been teasing. And the way you incorporate your friends. Dude into it, and it's like chaos, but it works. Like you're riding around in the bed of a truck or it's just the phone's going this way and then you flip it to this girl, and then you flip it to that guy. You flip it to this girl. Like, the way that you just incorporate your everyday life and you're hanging out with your friends into your teasing of songs is brilliant. I don't know how to do anything [00:23:19] Speaker C: else, to be honest. Like, I try to do like a content shoot or something like that, and it just looks cheesy. It does. It looks like I set the phone up and like, it was planned. Like, it's way better if I, like, honestly, like, have a few drinks in me and then like, okay, like, I got from this TikTok. [00:23:35] Speaker B: Well, I think that's part of the reason those. These. Those fans that you met and the folks that were at the Lauren show feel so connected to you because you're letting people into your real life and you're throwing your songs over it. [00:23:46] Speaker C: I have a very hard time not being an oversharer. And just, like, what you see is what you get all the time. Like, I can't really put on, like a. This is me on social media versus me in real life. Like, unfortunately, I don't know how to, like, be. [00:23:59] Speaker B: It's not unfortunate. Jordan. I think that's a huge. I think that's a huge reason why it's working, I guess. Seriously? No, because people aren't just fans of your music. They're fans of you. Like, they want to be your friend. [00:24:10] Speaker C: Well, I would like to be their friend, so that works out great. [00:24:14] Speaker B: Like, when I think about, like, my favorite artists and artists that have. That have had a lot of success, especially here in the social media era, it's because the fans feel like they're friends. They feel like family. [00:24:25] Speaker C: That's how I want it to feel like, you know, like how it's supposed to be. My music is your shoulder to lean on. And, like, just getting to build those relationships now, like, that's the coolest part. I even. I asked, like, Carson Wallace about this in a. Right. A few months ago, but he was like. He had done an opening run of Vincent Mason a while back, and I was like, what is. What's your advice? And use, like, do your best to make as many relationships with your fans as you can. So that was like, kind of my priority going into it is, like, if there are any, I'll make the relationship. But, like, I genuinely don't know what to expect. Like, this is my first time doing any of this. And it was just more than I could have ever dreamed of. Like, genuinely, I could die happy tomorrow. I feel like I have just. I feel. It feels so good to be at the base of the mountain, you know? Like, I, like, have done so much work just to, like, start. You know what I mean? And that's just the coolest part is I'm so in love with the process. And I don't even know, like, after this weekend, like, how I could love it even more, but I. I do. It's like, it's. It's weird. It's so cool. [00:25:26] Speaker B: Yeah. So we got to talk about. You got that. Because that has been, what a release. Like, did you think it was going to be doing what it's doing right now? [00:25:36] Speaker C: No expectations. I was just so happy about the song. I was like, the production's incredible shout out will kill that. It makes you want to get up out of your chair. Like, that's all I wanted. I was like, I'm proud of this. I love playing it live. It's so fun to play live, by the way. And I'm just. I like thinking about it gets me excited, but I love every part of it. I love the lyrics, I love the melody. I love literally everything about it. Could not be prouder of it. And I was just like, it'll do what it does if I have faith in this song, and let's see what happens. But I was pleasantly surprised, obviously. I was like, wait, you guys are really nice to me. Like, what's happening? But no, I, like, even when I was in high school, I, like, released music on my own and stuff. But, like, I always, like, wanted to get on a playlist. And, like, just seeing me on one little playlist, I'm like, oh, my God, this is crazy. Like, how am I on a playlist? Like, next to these artists? Like, this is so weird, but that's a big dream of mine too. And, like, done. Like, that's crazy. [00:26:35] Speaker B: Who'd you write that one with? [00:26:36] Speaker C: Olivia dupont, Madison Spratley and Spencer Raven. It was just great energy in the room that day. Literally, Madison walked in, energy's up. She's like, I want to write some FGL shit. And I'm just like, hey, let's go. Come on. But it was just a blast. And the whole time, like, the goal was just to have fun. And that's, I think, why the song came about. It's just like, you shouldn't. It shouldn't be. There shouldn't be so much pressure on it. And it should be like, if you're not having fun and you're right, it's like, what are you doing them for? You know, obviously it's work, but, yeah, there's a balance for sure. [00:27:09] Speaker B: No, you're in this thing to have fun, you know, and fun is such a huge part of it. And when did you start writing? [00:27:16] Speaker C: Oh, God. Amidst, like, doing every sport on planet Earth since age zero. [00:27:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:27:24] Speaker A: What. [00:27:24] Speaker B: What sports did you do? [00:27:26] Speaker C: I've. I've done probably every sport you can think of. I've done soccer, volleyball, tennis, lacrosse, basketball, swim, field hockey. I played field hockey throughout high school, but, like, early on. Like, ages 0 to, like, 10. I've tried every sport. Both my parents were collegiate athletes, too, and they just were like, we got to find your sport. You got to find your hunger for the ball. And I'm like, I don't have a hunger to go to the ball. I don't care. Like, someone else is going to go get it. But, like, the guitar, like, that's my ball. Like, I want to go get it. That's my sport. Like, yeah, you know, But I think I started writing there's like so many videos of me singing, like when I was three, like, making up songs. So I think that's weird. And that low key in the back of my head, I'm kind of like, how did you guys not see that? You guys not. You didn't think once like, oh, maybe we should put her in theater or like singing lessons? No, that came way later. But like, for real writing, like learning and playing guitar, I would say around like 12 or 13. My songwriting teacher and my guitar teacher actually went to Belmont and graduated in Emily Wiseman's year. [00:28:29] Speaker B: Just crazy. [00:28:30] Speaker C: Now think about. But yeah, she lives in Charlotte too, so it's just weird in kismet. But yeah, as soon as I. She showed me a few chords, like, I tried so hard to figure them out and just started writing non stop and was like, wait, this is my bread and butter. This is my eggs and toast. [00:28:46] Speaker B: Like, yeah, eggs and toast. [00:28:48] Speaker C: It's my eggs and toast, you know. [00:28:49] Speaker B: So with having a teacher, I've never heard of a, of a songwriting teacher, but that's such a smart because a lot of folks that could teach guitar could also teach songwriting. So were you co writing then with her? [00:29:01] Speaker C: I was a little bit. She like kind of taught me structure more than anything. Like, I would come in with like a verse idea or be like, how can I make this song better? Like, I have this concept or something. And we would go through it and she'd be like, oh, well, shorten this phrase or do this here. Why don't we try something different melodically and just like learning those little innuendos and I think like figuring out style. Like, I think like when I was like 15 or 16 or going into high school, like when Lizzie McAlpine's debut record came out and during 2020 and stuff, like, I was like, oh, okay. Flips became a thing in my brain. Like, then as soon as I got to Nashville, country flips were like a huge thing. [00:29:41] Speaker B: What's a. What's a flip? [00:29:43] Speaker C: It's like a title that's like kind of a homophone. Like your place by Ashley Cook is like a flip. [00:29:49] Speaker B: Okay. [00:29:50] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:29:50] Speaker C: And that was like a big thing. Like Lizzie McAlpine's. What's another example, like her just using like little. She was a big metaphor person. It's like all the metaphors and the flips and stuff like that became a big thing in my songwriting. Or like Julia Michaels was huge. I was like Esther Dean getting into all these like, weird stuff. And granted, I grew up on like Toby Keith Lone Star and, like, Mindy McCready, like, Raelyn and the Chicks and stuff like that. So I was just like, how do I do country music with, like, pop melodies, but also just incorporate all my favorite things and be wordy and fgle, you know? I don't know. That was a really long winded. [00:30:29] Speaker B: No, no, it makes a lot of sense. Like, I get it. Have fans been singing back some of the unreleased stuff just because you've been posting it so much? [00:30:38] Speaker C: So. This was crazy. I'm on my way to sound check in Chicago. I'm wearing sweatshirt and leggings, by the way. I look absolutely ratchet. It's terrible. [00:30:47] Speaker B: Your comfy clothes. You got to my comfy clothes. I would imagine you and Lily are dressed comfortably on the road, especially going to the show. [00:30:54] Speaker C: We were. Oh, my God, it was awesome. Like, continental breakfast. Like, we were rolling out of there right on our checkout time. It was great. But I'm on my way to soundcheck, and there's these group of people on the side of the street, and they, like. They yell out, like, jordy, come. And I'm like, oh, gosh, wait, what is happening? Like, surely this can't be. Surely this can't be. And I. It's like, a fan. And so I met him. His name is Cole. And I'd seen him in my Instagram comments, like, early in day, because he'd been commenting, like, can't wait for the Chicago show. Obviously, I pay attention. That stuff is. I'm like, oh, my God. Like, coming. Like, yeah, wait, I got to, like, lock in. Not that I wouldn't have before, but it's like, oh, my God. Like, someone who knows who I am is going to be at the show. It's like, weird. [00:31:35] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:31:36] Speaker C: But he was like, can you please play, like, these two songs that weren't in the set list? And I was like, how do you know those songs? That's crazy. And during the show, people were, like, calling out stuff like, play this song. Play this. And I was like, how do you guys know this song? Like, it's so weird. But I played this song that I wrote called Baby Again too, and they, like, knew the words, and I was like, this is so crazy. Like, I can't even, like, put into words what that feels like. It's so weird. But then you meet them at the merch booth, and you're like, oh, my God. Like, let's hang out. I wish I could just, like, have a few beers with you guys. Like, this would be awesome. But no, everyone has been so nice, too. Like, I love the way that my fans were. Like, I just love their personalities. And that just is such a good, validating feeling. Like, my music is attracting the type of people I want to be around. Like, that is. That feels so gratifying and just, like, a step in the right direction. [00:32:25] Speaker B: Those are people that you'd be on the lawn at an FGL show with. Oh, and they're. They're singing. [00:32:30] Speaker C: They get down and they're. There's. [00:32:32] Speaker B: And they're singing your unreleased songs. [00:32:35] Speaker C: It's crazy. It's insane. And mind you, like, I have no room to be saying any of this. Like, when I tell you I am, like, bottom of the bottom feeder, like, that's what's so cool about this, is, like, I get to build these relationships now. But it's just so weird. Like, it's just a weird concept overall. Like, pursuing this is weird. Like, it's weird. Like, it's just. It's. I was just talking to Lily about this, too. It's like the longest apprenticeship of your, like, that you'll ever have. And it's just. It sharpens, like, every skill that you would have, like, in every other job. Like, if you were sitting behind a desk and you were, like, constantly only working on math. Like, you're working on personality skills and public speaking skills and sales and stuff like that. It's just you're always doing something different, and it's never boring. And it's just. They said it's time to marry the game. I say, yeah, I do. Like, this is, like, all I want to do. Oh, my gosh. [00:33:23] Speaker B: I love it. [00:33:24] Speaker C: I'm so excited just talking about it. [00:33:25] Speaker B: I love it. No, and I love. I love your excitement. And it's crazy because if you. A few years ago, you were that girl in that crowd. [00:33:31] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:33:32] Speaker B: Like, literally, what was the last show that you went to as a fan? [00:33:35] Speaker C: Oh, that's a good. I just saw Hardy in Huntsville. [00:33:39] Speaker B: How good is he? Dude, how good is that show? [00:33:43] Speaker C: So one of my big dreams is to have pyro and my show, and he has the big bottomland Jordan Cobb show with Pyro. Like, come on with Pyro. Are you kidding me? That would be. [00:33:53] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:33:53] Speaker C: But I saw his show, and first of all, I'm just impressed by the vote. The live vocals were insane. [00:34:00] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:34:01] Speaker C: His vocal stamina is a force to be reckoned with. I loved watching him go out into the crowd and talk to people and all that. It just felt like his set was so well rounded. Too, like, super intentional. The band was incredible. The mix was so good. And McCoy Moore and Tucker Whitemore open for him. And I've been a big McCoy Moore fan for a long time. Like, I've seen him, like, while I've been in rights and stuff, like, passing by. Like, I met him at around with Emmy Moyen, like, long, long time ago, too. And it was just so cool to, like, good for him. Like, that's like a Nashville heart thing, is, like, Nashville hard thing. I don't know. But it's like, I don't know. You're just like, I'm cheering you on. And, like, so cool. And it was the day his record came out, and I was so excited to hear some of those songs. Tucker was incredible. He puts on a great show. That dude loves to dance. I was like, hey, get into it. And then Hardy just like, oh, my God, he knocked the house down. It was insane. [00:34:51] Speaker B: Yeah. So funny story about McCoy, how we first met him. So Nikki T. Back in the day was in, of course, like, pre raised rowdy or early raised row, like 2016 or 17. He was in a Luke Combs, like, fan club group on Facebook. He met McCoy in the Facebook group. McCoy was in high school or middle school in this Luke Combs fan club group when he was still living down in Florida, like, when he was a kid. [00:35:15] Speaker C: Are you. [00:35:16] Speaker B: So we've known McCoy since he was a kid, like, through being a mega Luke Combs fan, like, in the bootleggers group on Facebook. [00:35:22] Speaker C: That is like, that's the coolest connection. [00:35:25] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:35:25] Speaker C: What the hell. [00:35:26] Speaker B: Yeah. And he was another one that he would come in and play at the old Live Oak with the X's on his hands. Like, how we've had you. How we've had you at, like, 18, 19, now 20 years old. McCoy was another one of those kids, dude. [00:35:37] Speaker C: So it's so he's incredible. Like, oh, good for him. That's a great story. [00:35:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:35:41] Speaker B: But that, again, just shows, like, the guys and girls that are coming up right now just love this thing. Like, they're music fans that are like, I want to do that. You guys are all finding a way to do it at a high level [00:35:53] Speaker C: and, like, student of the craft. I mean, always, like, checking. Like, I'm sure McCoy and all those other guys, like, you're checking credits when you come up. Like, it's let. It's weird because the longer you're here, too, it becomes less about your favorite artists, more about your favorite writers. [00:36:06] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:36:06] Speaker C: It's just such a weird thing. Or like, having, like, these people that you idolize, and you're like, I would die to, like, breathe the same air as I'll be in the same room. And they're just people. Just, like, the artists are just people, but they, like, you've looked up to them. Like, they've written your favorite songs, like, the stuff. Stuff that you've cried to laugh to celebrated to. Like, that's just the power of music and brings together. It's just such a cool thing. And, like, getting to watch people grow is the coolest thing about being in Nashville, I think, like, watching my friends win or just seeing them get deals and stuff like that is just the coolest thing. We're all in the trenches together. Like, let's go. Come on. [00:36:39] Speaker B: Absolutely. [00:36:40] Speaker C: That's the best part, is the process. [00:36:42] Speaker B: Yeah, it is. It is.100. Who are some of your favorite writers? [00:36:45] Speaker C: Oh, my God. [00:36:45] Speaker B: Talk about getting star stuck in there. [00:36:47] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:36:48] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:36:48] Speaker C: My dream Carrie. If he's watching this, I, like, could freak out, could shake, but it's fine. Casey Beathard is my favorite writer of all time. Probably Julia Michaels is super up there for me. She was, like, the first, like, her inner monologue ep. I was like, wait, like, where have you been all this time? And now she has all these, like, adelicots and tame and cry and stuff like that. But besides Casey Beathard, I loved Joy Beth Taylor, like, in high school. I loved Joy Beth Taylor. Like, it was crazy. [00:37:15] Speaker B: Have you met her yet? [00:37:16] Speaker C: I have not met her yet, but hopefully soon. Fingers crossed. All these other crazy writers, and now my favorite writers are the ones that I'm getting to write with, like Ryan Cohn, like Aaron Pollock, Lily Drury, all these incredible, incredible people like Spencer. Like, it's just a blessing that those people have become my friends, too, and people I can trust and count on and call if I need something. That's just the best part about being here is building relationships and being like, no. Like, these people are the next Casey Beathards or Joy Beth Taylors or, like, Julie Michaels. Like, I was here, like, while they were, like, building their brand and stuff. And that's just, like, the best feeling ever. [00:37:55] Speaker B: Like, seriously, I love that you're shouting out jb, dude. That's like. That's, like a little. That's like. That's like a little sister. Like, I freaking love. Love me some jb. I remember watching her, and I remember Nick and I trying to tell her because she put out some songs as an artist and watching her play rounds early on, she would have that thing where she. She shuts. She would shut the bar up. Live Oak would have a couple hundred people in it, and the bar would be rowdy as. And Joy Beth would just shut it up. [00:38:21] Speaker C: Dude. Like, dude, it's insane. [00:38:23] Speaker B: Just insane. Whether it's. Whether it's a slow song or a party song or whatever. Like, totally. There's just so many talented songwriters, and there's hard hundreds of them here. [00:38:32] Speaker C: It's the. What's so funny? I was thinking about this this morning. The first round I ever saw in Nashville. Like, when I started Belmont, I just went to round with one of my roommates because I, like, Eli Winters is from North Carolina. And I saw he was playing around. I don't know anyone here. I was like, okay, yeah, let's go. Like, maybe I can meet him and whatever. And another guy playing that night. Forgive me. I don't know his name, but the first song he played, he's like, yeah, this is my first major cut. It's called A Rock and a Hard Place by Billy Zimmerman. And I wrote this with so and so. And I was like, this is crazy. My first round. Like, you can just go and do that here and even like, Bobby's Idol hour. Like, incredible people, like, Baccarat or like, Brent Cobb is one of my favorite songwriters. I just respect him so much. [00:39:14] Speaker B: He's got. He's got a great last name. [00:39:16] Speaker C: Oh, I mean. I mean, I wasn't going to say it. I'm glad you did. But, like, I wasn't going to bring it up. No. Yeah, it's crazy. I've been to Peach Jam. Like, that was sick, too. Yeah, Just like insane, insane writers. Like, that's the best part about being here, too, is like, there's always going to be an incredible writer who is like, could outrun outright you, like, and run circles around you. And that's like the drive to being here. It's like you want to be in rooms with people who are worlds better than you. And, like, that's what you're working towards. I mean, that's like the best part. It's like, keep writing, right? One more song, one more bad song, one more good song. Yeah, but I say it's like this. It's like the sports thing I said earlier. It's like seven days a week, you bat and baseball. Two of the days, you'll have your best and worst. And the other five are what count, you know? Yeah, it's so. [00:40:03] Speaker A: I don't know. [00:40:04] Speaker C: I'm obsessed. You can't tell. [00:40:06] Speaker B: No, it's awesome. We're obsessed, too, at Raise Rowdy, and we're obsessed with the music you've been doing and the fact that you've got. You've got a deal, too, and you've got a team. You've got a team working on your stuff. [00:40:18] Speaker C: Like, I think about that every day. Like, the. The most. The most logical and reasonable explanation for all this is like, my team is the best. I could not have a better team. Everybody on it is dialed, locked in. I could not respect them anymore. And just, like, truly, people I trust, like, it's so sometimes I can feel very transactional here. I mean, obviously, like any other industry, but just knowing I have people in my corner who, like, will go to bat for me and fight and, like, you want to work as hard for anybody on your team as you want them to work for you. So that's just. Honestly been the highlight of this journey is, like, having people that I've been with since day one and they've bullied in me and seen me fall, succeed, all this stuff, and just like, baby steps, like, you know, it's like being on a sports team and they. [00:41:03] Speaker B: And they let you be you. They want you to be the. The loudest, most prominent version of yourself. [00:41:09] Speaker C: So true. Yeah, they, like, want the full, authentic version of me, and they're not trying to make me be anything. It's just like, just do you. And it's. It'll work, so. Yep. I don't know. I. I don't know how I got so lucky, but I did so well. [00:41:22] Speaker B: It's hard work. And you're. You're really good at this thing, Jordan. [00:41:24] Speaker C: Thank you. [00:41:25] Speaker B: You're really freaking good at this thing. Being really good and working hard and just being a good human, like, just not being an. Goes a long, long way. [00:41:35] Speaker C: I just saw. I saw this. Oh, my God. I was just telling someone. My for you page is so weird right now. It'll be like, 10 places in the world. You need to. You can't. Templates in the world. Nobody's allowed to visit, like, the Vatican. And then the next line is like, 11 laws of the universe. But all that to say one of these was like this. And it's not even a law of the university. That's like clickbait, text on screen, whatever. [00:41:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:41:57] Speaker C: And one of these laws is 80% of the results come from 20% of the effort, which is like, attitude and effort. Like, hello, That's. It's simple. It's not easy. Like, kind of is. Whatever. But simple. Simple is the name of the game. So, yeah, I don't know. It's. It's weird, but it's proven true. And like, even when I got here, like, all I. All I did was co write with Belmont. People, like, and the sweaty practice rooms down in the basement. It smells disgusting down there. Every piano is out of tune. You spent an hour to two hours already in that room, maybe three in the song. You don't even know what the song is about at that point. It's just like, what are we doing? But then occasionally you'll get like a really good one and you're like, this my song child. Or you're just like, reaching out to people to get coffee and like, they'll leave you on scene and that's okay. You just gotta move on. Like a cold. DM has literally never failed me, even if they left me on scene. Like, I know a long time ago, there's so many people I DM do just didn't get back because people are busy. And now I'm like, thank God I didn't get coffee with them. Because I would have sounded like a lunatic asking them all these questions. They would have been like, get your bearings before you ask to write with me. I would have been like, yep, I still super green, but even then, like, oh, gosh, I just have no business, like, sliding in DM like that. [00:43:11] Speaker B: Who's been. What's been the wildest comment that you've gotten? Because I've seen like, some artists that we know that are a little bit further along on this journey. Like, I saw Josh Ross commented recently, and he's a. He's a longtime friend of the family. Good homie. [00:43:23] Speaker C: Like, wait, I'm a huge Josh Ross fan. Like, wait, I had to lock in for a second, but. But I was like, oh, my gosh, this is crazy. I love his stuff also. It's been so cool. I'm trying to think. The FGL comment, really? Yeah, that was. That was like. I. I was like, is somebody pranking me? Like, time's up, just cut the stuff. Cut the cameras. That was crazy. Obviously, Ella's con was crazy, but I cover Ella's stuff, like a lot too. Like, I covered, like, made it out of Mexico, like fall my freshman year too. Like, I've always loved her stuff. But there's. I don't know. My favorite comments are literally from like, someone random person on the Internet started the cob mob thing. So that's been like a funny, hilarious thing. Someone else in my comment section, like, every video I post his name is Cam. He comments like a photo of a different beer and like I always like rate the beer. Like it's like this weird Internet bit that we have going. He'll like comment like it's like a Bush light line or a bud light lime or like the next it'll be like this weird niche seltzer and I'll be like, ah, nine out of ten. Like flavor looks a little mid or like try harder next time. Like split the G or whatever it is. But it's just like a funny bit and that's the stuff I enjoy. Like that's like relationship building online is like the coolest thing on my TikTok live. Like a few weeks ago someone in the comments was like sing the national anthem. So I sang the national anthem like acapella online and it was so weird. It felt like I was on like a one sided face. [00:44:49] Speaker B: Were people commenting like American flags? [00:44:51] Speaker C: Yes, they were like, like holy sh. I'm so patriotic right now, bro. I was like, why did I do that? And I was like, I'm gonna be thinking about this when I fall asleep like this. So like why did I do that? [00:45:00] Speaker B: Another thing that I'm noticing too because like a lot of female artists in country have struggled with. They. They can get either just the females or just the guys. Like as fans, you've got, you've got both working. [00:45:13] Speaker C: You've pretty split half and half. [00:45:14] Speaker B: You've got, you've got like the Cob mob, like the dude similar to like the Ella fellas. And then you've got girls that are hanging on every word that you're writing. [00:45:24] Speaker C: That's the coolest thing too is like that's feels like it's exactly who I am. I try to express like, I don't know, it's weird like having two older brothers. Like being around them, it definitely makes you more like, I don't know, like thinking about stuff. Like they would think about it. [00:45:40] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:45:40] Speaker C: But also like being girly. Like I love self tan, but I also love nicotine. Like yeah, you're like, you can like both them and I'm not afraid to say that. Like to be honest, I don't know, I just looked at Lily and now I'm stressing. [00:45:54] Speaker B: No, no, no, no, no. Not at all. Hey, not at all. If you need some, I got some. I got, I got the Zemos. We've had the Zemos together before. [00:46:01] Speaker C: This is my first podcast. Can you tell? [00:46:03] Speaker B: No. Hey, you're absolutely crushing it. One of my favorite Jordan Cobb stores, aside from all the times that we've been lucky enough to have you play, whether it's rowdy on the row outside the round, whatever. Was the release party? Not the release party. It was the signing party for Eli Wenders and Aaron Armstrong, Max Martin, that whole crew. We were hanging out at that house. There was a shit ton of Surfside there. Shout out to Jesse, the Nashville Surfside rep, for hooking the party up. But we were on that porch and it was around. It was around this time last year, I think. And really. [00:46:34] Speaker C: Oh, my God. [00:46:34] Speaker B: Yeah. Because it was football season. [00:46:35] Speaker C: Because I remember it was like a good time. [00:46:37] Speaker B: Everybody was. Everybody was riding their parlays. I remember. I remember Grace Tyler being like, I need this team to win. Like, it was awesome. And then I remember where I was like, this girl is awesome. Like, you remind me of my. My younger sister Julie. Was JD Wise said something or did. Did some jd. Me and JD Love JD One of our absolute favorites. And you punched him right in the arm. And I was like, that is that. That is the kind of girl that you want to have around you at all times because you keep it real. Like, you said you love self tanner, but you can hang with the bros. Like, you're like, there's not many. Like, and you know who I again, like drawing the comparisons here. Like, I saw, like, Ella used to do that same. Like, I've been punched in the arm by Ella so many times. [00:47:26] Speaker C: If there's one thing I won't do, it's take a shirt from somebody. Like, if you're gonna like, don't. Not too much on your girl. Like, I will throw hands. He was probably saying something like, I honestly don't even remember doing that, which makes it funnier. [00:47:37] Speaker B: It was. [00:47:38] Speaker C: But it definitely wasn't like a wimp punch either, which is even weirder. Like, why was I. J.D. [00:47:44] Speaker B: was like, ow. And I was like. I was like, don't mess with Jordan. [00:47:48] Speaker C: Hey, not too much. [00:47:49] Speaker B: I was like, this girl is awesome. What are we looking at as far as, like, releases coming next? Because I know you've been writing so many songs and teasing so many. Are the fans, like, commenting? Like, please put this one out next. Please put that one out. [00:48:03] Speaker C: I've noticed a lot of. A lot of comments and I honestly like posting, like, oh, what song do you want to hear next? Like, what covers do you want to hear? I like it being open ended like that. It gives me an easier gauge. But the coolest thing has been, like, the songs they want out are also the songs I want Out. Yeah. It's like, okay. Feels good that we're on the same page. Like, these are, like, songs I'm loving right now or, like, could totally see myself releasing. Like, there's lots of plans in the works, and I'll just say that. [00:48:27] Speaker B: But before the end, before the end [00:48:29] Speaker C: of the year, can't confirm nor deny, but just get ready. I mean, your. Your bonfires, your tailgates may get a whole lot better. That's all. [00:48:39] Speaker B: Talk about why you love Columbia, South Carolina. Carolina so much. I know it's been a rough season. My girlfriend, as you know, is a Gamecock as well, and I think she's ready for the Shane Beamer era to come to an end, as many Gamecock fans are. But I've heard that the tailgate in Columbia and the cockabooses and being in. In William Bryce Stadium and Sandstorm. Like. And I know you grew up going to Cox. [00:49:01] Speaker C: Oh, it was every weekend. It was like, I. I've been playing the Taliban song as, like, a cover on tour. It was like, I. There's photos of me in, like, a Gamecock cheerleader outfit, and I'm just fast asleep. It's awesome. But that was like my whole life growing up. Like when I was four to still now. Like, we still go. But I would be in the back of my dad's truck. Like, I always had to sit in the middle, so my brother's got the leg room. It's so stupid. It's terrible. I can't stand that to this day. [00:49:28] Speaker B: But hey, give one of you boys slide in the middle seat in the middle. She's a grown ass woman. Woman. Now one of you boys slide to that middle seat. [00:49:39] Speaker C: No, but doing that just like he always had Toby Keith or something on the radio. Like, so Niche or like Poke Salad, Annie Valleys. That's like such a weird, strong memory of mine. You sure? I should go listen to it. It's actually a hype song anyway. Now that's what Columbia looks like when I was younger. But now it looks like when I'm going to visit my friends. Like, you wake up, there's like loud music. You're still hungover, and you're like, oh, my God. My God. Like, I can't even open my eyes right now. You're not gonna. You're not gonna have breakfast. So sorry. Just forget about it. You're probably. Because everything's so far away. You're crossing the train tracks. You go. You're all the way down the train tracks. You're in your boots or Whatever shoes in your maxi dress, whatever it is, you're already sweating. You got a few pins. Maybe it's itching on your shoulder, and you're wearing sunglasses, but they're sliding down because you're sweating. Cause it's hot. It's outside. And then you walk all the way. Maybe you're going to the southern lots or the regular lots. And it's just. It is a. It's chaos. It's just super fun chaos and all that stuff. And then you go to the game and it's like sandstorm with all the towels. Granted, my. My parents tailgate. They're like, almost every weekend, but it's great. My dad, like, pulls down, he has like, speakers on the edge of his truck. And like, we get some Bojangles. Like, maybe, like, I mean, it's awesome. It's. It's. It's. I can't even put into words, like, thinking about it just brings my mood up a little bit. [00:50:55] Speaker B: I got to ask a Carolina question here. Do you prefer Bojangles or cookout? Whoa, that's tough. That's like putting together. That's like, challenging break. When it's daylight out or when it's late night. I've never had a cookout when the sun's. [00:51:08] Speaker C: I've never had cookout when it's daylight outside. Same as Taco Bell. Like, I have Taco Bell. [00:51:13] Speaker B: Late night. [00:51:13] Speaker C: Yeah, exactly. Late night. Exactly. Ooh, that's so tough because Bojangles is so, so good, like, in like the 10am to 1pm window. But cookout is so good, like 10pm on or like 9pm on. This is so hard. [00:51:32] Speaker B: And cookout, where I give the edge slightly to cookout. And I love. I love chicken. Surfside has me doing a fried chicken thing, by the way. I don't know if you've seen that. It's on their Tick Tock. [00:51:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:51:42] Speaker B: So, yeah, if you go on Surfside's Tick Tock, it's called Cluck around and. And find Out. And it's me reviewing fried chicken sandwiches around the country. I think I've done like 30 of them. It's on a clock o meter. Bojangles scored high. I haven't done cookout yet. And then I did one that was in the. That was in five points in. In usc. I forget the name of the place, but. But I like Bojangles for that. But the fact that you can get a burger with two chicken quesadillas and [00:52:06] Speaker C: a milkshake for like, $9, like, that's. [00:52:08] Speaker B: Yeah, the Cookout tray. [00:52:10] Speaker C: Is the tray. Okay, wait, what's your tray order like? Let's talk about this. [00:52:13] Speaker B: I like the burger and then sometimes I'll do. I'll double up on the quesadilla. Other times I'll do the. If I'm feeling extra greasy, I'll do the quesadilla and the corn dog. [00:52:22] Speaker C: Quesadilla is so. [00:52:23] Speaker B: It's so good. [00:52:24] Speaker C: It's a perfect pull apart. [00:52:26] Speaker B: They shouldn't have that good of a quesadilla, but they do. [00:52:28] Speaker C: I know. In the tin foil too. It's just like perfect. [00:52:31] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:52:31] Speaker C: Okay. For that reason, I'm going to go cookout. Just because price and consistency. The only thing I will say about Bojangles is occasionally they like forget your biscuit or they like switch up your side and it's kind of like, well, I was really looking forward to the Mac and cheese and the spork. Like the spork is. Spork is a high plus 10 aura for Bojangles. [00:52:48] Speaker B: I'm not gonna lie. Yeah. [00:52:49] Speaker C: But cookout, I think is just like a more agreeable. Like more people are likely to agree about going to cookout than they are to Bojangles. I feel like Bojangles is more niche. [00:52:59] Speaker B: And then do you think that the cookouts back home are better than the cookout that's here? Because the cookout in Nash, cookout in midtown is so packed. [00:53:07] Speaker C: Dude, dude, don't talk to me about that. Location. Location. It's fine. I love them though. And I'll still go. But like back home it takes me like 20 minutes to get this specific cookout. And you would always go after football games. Like that's the thing. Like you're there in the parking lot just pulling fire quesadilla and waiting on your stupid milkshake that you're like, I don't even know what flavor to choose because they're all that good. I was just the best. So I gotta give flowers to my back home one because they also have the. I don't know, does the Nashville one have a walk up window or. No? No, they have the inside. Yeah, See there's. There's an inside of my hometown one. There's a walk up window and a drive through. [00:53:42] Speaker B: Oh, you got all three. That's a legit yes. [00:53:45] Speaker C: And it's like in a, it's in a good, like spot. Like, I like where it is. [00:53:49] Speaker B: Yeah. How excited are you for the rest of this Lauren tour? You got exit, exit in coming up. [00:53:54] Speaker C: Are you kidding me? Like, you know These shows I've seen at the Exit in. And my friend Benny just sold out Exit and I was like, let's go. Like, my friends are winning. This is awesome. [00:54:03] Speaker B: Yep. [00:54:04] Speaker C: I'm so stoked for that. This weekend I'm going to Oxford and [00:54:07] Speaker B: I'm just like, proud Larry's proud Larry, have you been to that room yet? [00:54:10] Speaker C: I've never been to Oxford. [00:54:11] Speaker B: It is a, it is a. It is a cool little spot. I mean, it's a historic sec town. I'm pulling up these other dates here. I love on Spotify where you can look, you can look on, on there and like hit the little events tab. Oh, you got Eddie's Attic coming up. That is a cool. I'm so excited cool room. And then the open court out in Knoxville is going to be awesome too. [00:54:33] Speaker C: I'm like, so, so excited. I just, I think as time goes on, like, I'll get the hang of it more too, I think just getting my bearings and figuring out like, what I like, what I don't like during my set. Like, maybe I shouldn't have said that. Or like I feel like I just have no filter sometimes and I gotta work on it. [00:54:50] Speaker B: But that's why we love you, Jordan. [00:54:51] Speaker C: I guess sometimes I don't think my grandparents or my parents are gonna like that. I said I, I like self tanning nicotine. But that's all right. I already said it. I can't do it now. [00:55:01] Speaker B: Hey, there's worse things to like. [00:55:02] Speaker C: Oh, this is very true. [00:55:03] Speaker B: There are way worse things to like than self tan and nicotine. Absolutely. And I mean, Oxford is just such a cool spot. And Proud Larry's is the perfect room to start out in there. And the Grove is so cool. Like you're. And you're such a fan of the SEC to where now you're getting to [00:55:19] Speaker C: go to all these towns, like, target audience. Like, I want y' all bumping this before you're going into the stadiums. Like, literally. I keep thinking, like, it's just, it's unreal, to be honest. And someone told me that when I'm at Proud Larry's, I need to do their like, word chant. Like, oxford, are you ready? And then they do their hell yeah. Like the whole, the whole sitch. So I'm excited to do that, but it's going to be awesome. So I just have. I'm looking forward to it. Sold out too. So I'm just so. Yeah, like, what even is going on? But every day is just a bigger blessing and I'm just beyond Grateful for all of it. Like, that's the cool thing about this, too, is it takes so long to even, like, get to the very bottom of the base, and it takes, like, two seconds for it all to go away. So I'm just feeling very grateful for literally every single moment. And, like, being here today. Like, this is gonna be the highlight of my day. [00:56:12] Speaker B: It's the highlight of my day, too. [00:56:14] Speaker C: So, so fun. [00:56:15] Speaker B: I'm so, so glad you were able to come on here and do this. And seriously, thank you for being a big part of, like, our family and, like, this class of the guys and girls that are coming up in, like, folks that we've been lucky enough to watch from early on. [00:56:29] Speaker C: It really is a family. Like, even from the moment I met you, like, all you guys have done is lift. Lift each other up. And it's been a pleasure to like, share the stage with some of my favorite writers or writers I was, like, nervous to play alongside. Like, oh, my God, they've written this song. Like, I just gotta, like, lock in for this. And especially in Nashville, too. And, you know, everyone there is, like, in music or just a local country music fan. Like, it makes it better. I will say, like, I am. It's. I love the local, and obviously OD's in that stuff, but I wish that I was here during the era of, like, bell court taps or, like, the old live oak. [00:57:01] Speaker B: Oh, the old live oak. [00:57:02] Speaker C: I hear it's, like, a old legend. The old. [00:57:05] Speaker B: The old live oak was wild. That was the first for a lot of. A lot. A lot. A lot of people. So, yeah. I mean, that was the first spot Bailey Zimmerman ever played in front of people. [00:57:15] Speaker C: Like, it's not juju. Like, yeah, juju. Like, there's places around here that just have that sort of. [00:57:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:57:22] Speaker C: Magic. And that's one thing I just hope I. I don't lose sight of. Like, everything still feels like. I still feel like a kid in the candy store, like, with my hands on the glass. Like, let me in. [00:57:31] Speaker B: Like, I don't think you're ever gonna lose. [00:57:33] Speaker C: I don't think so. [00:57:33] Speaker B: I think. I think you're so. Too much. I think you're so excited and love this thing so much, and you're part of making OD the lore of odies and the lore of the local, which already has a bunch of. A bunch of cool history that has been in there. But seriously, thank you so much for coming on and hanging out. We're gonna. We're gonna snack on these muffins. [00:57:53] Speaker C: I brought him Homemade pumpkin muffins. They're from the box of Trader Joe's, but, like, they're homemade for sure. [00:57:59] Speaker B: Homemade. Homemade from Trader Joe's. [00:58:01] Speaker C: Perfect. [00:58:01] Speaker B: Hey, appreciate you. Appreciate you so much. Y' all be sure to go check out our girl, Jordan Cobb. Be on the lookout for some new music, hopefully coming before the end of the year, but definitely coming at some point. The fact that you've got over a million streams, I know. [00:58:25] Speaker C: Trust me, I think about it often. [00:58:27] Speaker B: Crazy. [00:58:28] Speaker C: It's. It's very weird. [00:58:29] Speaker B: Crazy. But thank you so much. 1.3. 1.3. Another. Another 300,000. And by the time this episode comes out, it'll be even higher than that. So thank you so much for coming on.
